Hey, party peeps! I don’t know about you, but Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer was my all-time favorite Christmas show when I was a kid. We watched it every year and I continue that tradition with my own kids now. I’m excited to share with you some of my favorite RUDOLPH PARTY IDEAS that can be used for an adult or kids party with supplies from Oriental Trading. This post is sponsored by Oriental Trading. SET UP A RUDOLPH DESSERT TABLE!
Want to know how to set up a dessert table? Well, here’s how I do it.
STEP 1 – DECIDE ON A MAIN COLOR PALETTE & ACCENT COLOR!
Color-coordinated dessert tables just look amazing! When coming up with the color palette, I take my inspiration from the theme or the characters I’m working with. Here, I’m focusing only on Rudolph and Santa, so the color palette of red, white, black and brown was the obvious choice! I like to add an accent color to compliment the main color palette. Most times, this is where I’d use metallics but this time, I added green to create a Christmas woodland feel to the table’s design.
STEP 2 – CREATE A WOW-FACTOR BACKDROP!
Backdrops don’t always have to be a vinyl backdrop or items on a wall. Think outside the box and use a centerpiece or tall decor items to create a table backdrop.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: One of my favorite GIRLFRIEND TIPS is to use character standups to set the scene for a themed party. They set up in minutes and stand on their own with a built-in cardboard stand. This time, I used the Rudolph and Santa standup on top of the table to create a backdrop! Cool, right?
Fill out the table backdrop with tall decor elements you set up on the very back of the table like these metal Christmas Flower decor pieces.
If you have decor pieces that aren’t tall, but you want to use them in your table backdrop, make them taller by placing them on top of boxes or glass jars like I did here with these two snowy trees.
STEP 4 – ADD PATTERNS & TEXTURE!
One of the hottest trends this year is buffalo plaid! I love how it pairs so well with my Rudolph party table! It gives it a rustic and sophisticated look that I love!
GIRLFRIEND TIP: When working with a bold pattern, use it in small amounts so it works as an accent. Even though buffalo plaid is a rustic pattern, give it a modern twist by pairing it with modern white. I added this white snowflake vinyl decal with my Cricut to these buffalo plaid trays.
To give your table visual interest, add texture to the design. First, I used a fluffy white blanket as the table linen. It gives the table a soft look that reminded me of snow. Then I decided to use wood as my accent texture. These wood pattern cake plates, wood tree containers, wood cupcake toppers and wood sleigh were perfect!
STEP 5 – SET UP YOUR TABLE!
Once I’ve decided on all the design elements for the table, I start to set it up with just the main decorations and empty trays, bowls and containers. This is the time where I can move things around and make sure I have enough containers to hold the desserts I want to serve. This step also includes deciding what desserts you will serve so you can make sure to use containers that will hold those desserts effectively. Honestly, sometimes I do the opposite and design the table first and then fill it with desserts that look best displayed in the containers I want to use!
PRO GIRLFRIEND TIP: Party planners, this step is crucial. I set up the table ahead of time in my studio so I can make changes before the event and only pack up the items I will actually be using on the table. Once I’ve decided on the table design, I take a photo of it so I can remember exactly how to set it up on event day. It also helps when you have an assistant who can set up the table for you according to the photo so you can work on something else!
STEP 6 – ADD DESSERTS!
I like to use a mix of custom and store-bought desserts. Always make sure the desserts match your table’s color palette.
These store-bought vanilla cupcakes got transformed into cute Rudolph Cupcakes in just a few steps. Be sure to check out my step-by-step tutorial to make these Rudolph Cupcakes.
The holidays are a great time to find affordable red and white desserts at your grocery store that match this table perfectly! One trip to my SuperTarget and I found all the desserts I needed like Peppermint Twinkies and Snowball cakes that look like snowballs! Gotta love that!
Some of them even look like designer desserts like these red velvet cake bites! Yummy!
I also like to place some pre-packaged dessert items on the table as well so guests can grab them to eat later like these Rudolph Gummy Noses! You can use super cute containers that aren’t food safe like this wood sleigh to hold pre-packaged desserts or candy.
STEP 6 – ADD TAKE-HOME DESSERTS & CONTAINERS!
I like to place take home containers on the dessert table so the desserts can also serve as take-home party favors! Here I placed these buffalo plaid snack bowls with lids out next to the donuts so guests can fill the snack cup with donuts to take home.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: These snack bowls are just the right size to hold 2 round donuts PERFECTLY!
STEP 7 – ADD DESIGN DETAILS!
This is my favorite part! Here is where I add finishing touches like these DIY Wood Cupcake Toppers that add a designer touch to the Snowball cakes. Check out my step-by-step tutorial on how to make these Wood Cupcake Toppers in just a few EASY steps!
Decorate the snowy trees with Rudolph and felt ornaments. Aren’t they adorable?
Add wood BELIEVE tags to the base of the wood cake plates!
Add a Rudolph ornament to the lids of the take-home snack bowls!
STEP 8 – DON’T FORGET PLATES & NAPKINS!
Place a stack of dessert plates and beverage napkins on the table so guests can help themselves.
SERVE DRINKS ON A RUDOLPH PARTY DRINK STATION!
Instead of just having a cooler or fridge full of drinks, design a Rudolph Party Drink Station to match the party theme. It’s an added detail and gives you an additional chance to add decor to your party space. Check out my step-by-step tutorial and supply list on how to make this Rudolph Drink Dispenser and matching Rudolph Mason Jar Cups!
