Hey party peeps! My Little Pony Rainbow parties are one of the hot new party themes this year. My daughter, Riley requested it for her 6th birthday party last week. I happen to love character parties. I love the creative challenge of taking a character party, making it my own and reflective of my child’s interests. I challenge myself to not buy any of the commercial licensed party goods and instead set out to put my own spin on it by designing a unique party theme that compliments that character. Today’s post is all about the Rainbow party decor and activities. CLICK HERE to see the Sparkle Rainbow Candy Bar along with a special discount offer just for Soiree Event Design readers! “Sparkle Rainbow” My Little Pony Party Theme

My daughter’s favorite pony, Rainbow Dash was the inspiration for her party this year so I knew the rainbow color palette would play a big role in her party design. She also loves sparkle and bling so I decided on a “Sparkle Rainbow” theme where my daughter and not the character was the star of the day from a custom designed outfit by Nevaeh’s Baby Couture to a huge fabulous sparkle wood cut out of her name by Ten23 Designs! Instead of buying the commercial character supplies that may not match your party’s theme or colors, have your own printable party decor designed just for you. Here I designed my own exclusive “Sparkle Rainbow” printable collection (now available in my shop here) that matched my theme and my rainbow and gold color palette perfectly.

Add A Little Rainbow Sparkle & Bling!

When designing a character party, one of my first rules is to find an element that is unique to the character and make that your design focal point. It could be a color, an activity, a symbol or a pattern or fabric. I went with the obvious Rainbows! The problem….Rainbow parties have been done so many times, how would I make my design unique? Well, I decided to add in LOTS of sparkle and bling rainbow supplies. This wasn’t exactly easy to do. I knew I wanted a sparkly rainbow sequin tablecloth but couldn’t find one anywhere so I had one custom designed. I am also a huge fan of bling sparkle sticks by Made By A Princess and bling frames, candy scoops and tongs and bling forks and spoons from Talia’s Creative Printing but they did not come in rainbow bling, so I had them custom make some for me from a roll of rainbow diamond rhinestone wrap I found at Koyal Wholesale.

Girlfriend Tip: One roll of bling wrap goes a LONG WAY! There are so many creative things you can do with a roll of bling wrap to create one-of-a-kind decor pieces that match your party’s theme. With just a small amount of the bling wrap, I was able to get all 24 sparkle sticks, 2 frames, 7 sets of cutlery and 2 sets of candy scoops and tongs! Don’t feel boxed in by what is offered in retail stores. Handmade vendors can work with you to create exactly what you are looking for that one-of-kind look you’re going for.

Sparkle Rainbow Dress Up Bar & Photo Shoot

After the craft activity, the girls visited the Sparkle Rainbow Dress Up Bar complete with a custom rainbow tutu for the birthday girl by Atutudes and tutus, mini top hats by Cupcake Wishes & Birthday Dreams, tutu wands by Titi’s Tutus and bubblegum necklaces by Autumn Lynn’s Chocolate Sins for each guest. They also painted their nails in rainbow colors and finished them off with My Little Pony “cutie marks” (nail decals). Little girls love playing dress up and they loved this part. When they were done getting all dolled up, the girls had a photo shoot where they modeled their looks.

Girlfriend Tip: This fabulous rainbow tutu outfit was such a wow factor, that it did double duty as a custom outfit for the birthday girl and as a gorgeous table centerpiece.

Sparkle Rainbow Party Activities

Carry out the character’s theme by offering activities that match the character. Here the guests created their own Rainbows in a Bottle by using craft sand in every color of the rainbow to fill plastic milk bottles with lids from Hoopla Events. I personalized each guest’s bottle by tying a personalized favor tag around the top of the bottle with sparkly gold bakers wine from Koyal Wholesale so each guest could find their craft at the end of the party.  The final activity was loads of fun! Each guest was given a custom designed rainbow “Sparkle Sack” by The Purple Pug that the girls used to collect golden eggs in a Rainbow Dash Scavenger Hunt.

My Little Pony Play Zone

One of the keys to a successful kids party is to build in time for free play. Here I created an entire My Little Pony play area for the guests to play with during the party just by using toys my daughter already had. Not only was it a fun area for the kids to play and a cute photo backdrop but it added such a whimsical decor element to the party space.

Girlfriend Tip: This step should be super easy if your guest of honor is a fan already of the character. I’m sure you already have LOTS of toys around the house like I did to use them as decor. I also surprised the birthday girl by placing large My Little Pony stuffed toys as decor elements throughout the party space and as table centerpieces that doubled as presents for her. Seeing her face as she walked through the party space and discovered her new ponies was priceless!

Sparkle Rainbow Favor Bar

Creating wow factor moments is my favorite part to any party design and this sequin rainbow backdrop is just that. I created this backdrop by layering one sequin table runner of each color from Koyal Wholesale side by side to create a rainbow pattern. The sparkle was just gorgeous! To balance out the rainbow colors in the backdrop I added a glittered Rainbow banner from Made By A Princess.

Girlfriend Tip: To make the end of the party less chaotic when giving out their favors, I pre-label each favor box with each guest’s name and I keep desserts packaged in cellophane for easy transport home. These custom My Little Pony cookies from Sugar Cravings comes delivered to you already sealed in a cellophane bag. I simply added the custom printable bag topper that matches the party theme to add that finishing touch.

Sparkle Rainbow Dining Table

The inspiration for this table design was this gorgeous rainbow chandeliers from Koyal Wholesale. They provided a perfect sparkle rainbow element to the table. One of my favorite things to do for chair decor is to simply hang themed backpacks from each chair like these plush Rainbow Dash backpacks that also doubled as party favors for each guest.

The best part of having your own printable collection designed for you is that it can be personalized with your child’s name for that extra special touch and also can be personalized with each guest’s name so you can create custom place settings for each guest giving your event a high-end feel.

Girlfriend Tip: Using personalized printable straw flags and plate inlays with each guests’ name on them is a great creative alternative to traditional place cards and also is a great way for the guests to keep track of their own drinks.
