“GIRLY CIRCUS SWEETS BAR!”
Sweets Bars are pretty much a staple now at any party! I mean, who doesn’t want the chance to help yourself to a wide variety of sweet treats! As a designer, the opportunity to have this WOW-FACTOR is key! Even if you ONLY had a fabulously designed Sweets Bar at your next party…trust me…it will be a HIT & something your guests will remember and be talking about long after the party is over! Follow these 5 BUDGET CHIC TIPS & you can create a fabulous sweets bar at ANY budget!
5 MUST HAVES FOR A BUDGET CHIC SWEETS BAR:
1. Themed backdrop
2. Unique table linen
3. Wow-factor centerpiece
4. Dress up store-bought sweets
5. Mix gourmet & store-bought sweets
6. Themed personalized printables
WOW-FACTOR BACKDROP & UNIQUE TABLE LINEN!
Here I used a sheer white bed canopy and embellished it with matching pink ribbon and bows to create a “girly circus” big top look above the sweets bar to give it that WOW-FACTOR! On the table I used a furry throw blanket. I use blankets alot on tables. I just love the soft, luxurious, girly feel it gives to the table. Don’t forget the front of your table too! I dressed this one with a whimsical ribbon garland created by Nancy from A To Zebra Celebrations! You can find her garlands in her Etsy shop here.
BUDGET CHIC TIP:
The sheer white canopy I found second-hand! WHAT A FIND! TOTALLY MATCHED WITH THE BIG-TOP LOOK! To make it even more fabulous, I embellished it myself with strips of pink ribbon and pink bows. For my party planner peeps…If you want to reuse the canopy for other events, simply use removeable glue dots to hold the ribbon strips and use bows on clips for easy removal!
WOW-FACTOR CENTERPIECE!
I LOVE having the cake or cupcake tower as the center of my sweets bars! It is usually the star of the show and allows for a tall visual stunning moment! Check out this GORGEOUS fondant cake custom designed by Danielle of Danielle’s Desserts! So AMAZING! I gave her my “Girly Circus” printables and she custom designed the cake to match it PERFECTLY! BUDGET CHIC TIP:
Swap out the fondant cake for a 5-tier cupcake tower! You’ll get the same height to the table and when you accessorize store-bought cupcakes with these fabulous striped baking cups and matching “Girly Circus” cupcake topper printables, they are now a WOW-FACTOR for less! The baking cups come in all kinds of patterns and colors and are available online in The TomKat Studio Shop here.
DRESS UP STORE BOUGHT SWEETS WITH INDIVIDUAL CONTAINERS!
To really give your Sweets Bar a high-end look for less, diplay your candy in individual sized containers to dress up store-bought sweets. Look how simply displaying gumballs in clear tubes and individual baking cups creates a high-end look as opposed to dumping them into a bowl! The candy tubes are also available in The TomKat Studio Shop!
BUDGET CHIC TIP:
Baking cups are my new must have item! I love how they add a gourmet look to store-bought sweets and create portable individual portions too! Display marshmallows in them with a Lolli-tag printable and they are gorgeous mini Marshmallow cups! They go a long way as 24 of them come in a pack. I also used them to display gumballs.
DRESS UP STORE BOUGHT SWEETS WITH FONDANT TOPPERS & PRINTABLES!
I use this tip myself ALL THE TIME! You can order gumpaste toppers like these from KupcakeSpot and use them to dress up store-bought chocolate doughnuts and cookies! (they ship these!) Place the cookies in individual cello bags and top with a personalized printable and you have given an ordinary cookie a FABULOUS designer look!
MIX GOURMET & STORE-BOUGHT SWEETS!
Even on a budget, include one or two gourmet items to your Sweets Bar to get the designer look. The trick is to only order a dozen of the gourmet items so that you get the look, but not the HUGE pricetag if you were to order one of each of the designer items for each of your guests! Mix in the store-bought items in larger quantities to fill out the table. Check out these amazing marshmallow pops from The Marshmallow Studio, cake pops and chocolate covered oreos from The Gourmet POP that make quite an impact even in small quantities.
THE FINISHING TOUCH…THEMED PRINTABLES!
Any Sweets Bar instantly gets a designer look with the addition of fabulously designed themed printables! The Girly Circus Printable Collection will be available on October 1st when our online Printable Shop launches! One printable package includes designs to create everything you’ll need to create a “Budget Chic” Sweets Bar:
• cupcake toppers
• favor bag labels
• cake topper
• candy or cookie bag toppers
• menu table sign
• sweets packaging labels

Where did you purchase the canopy from? Did you add the solid white part also?
Tonya says
Hi Dorie! I didn’t add the solid white part. just the bows and ribbons were added by me. I actually SCORED on the canopy and got it second-hand, however, here’s where you can get a similar canopy
