Hey party peeps!
This post is a personal one that I wanted to share. Yes, I am a christian and yes, I love Halloween. GASP!!!! Can this be? Well, there was a time that I didn’t celebrate Halloween, at the encouragement of my church. I felt bad for my kids because I remember how EXCITING it was as a kid to dress up and go trick-or-treating around my neighborhood.
So, I sat down and realized that what I loved about Halloween had nothing to do with any of the demonic or horror elements of Halloween and in fact, what I loved the most about it was the creativity, imagination and joy that kids and adults alike get when they have to dressup in fabulous costumes and pretend to be someone else for a few hours.
If your kids are anything like mine, my kids dressup practically every day! When my teenage son was young it was Power Rangers, Spiderman and Ninjas and now with my girls, we have a dressup drawer full of tutus, tiaras, boas, dresses and yes…a turtle costume. I see how they have so much fun dressing up and using their imaginations as they pretend play….for HOURS!
I decided to not deprive my children of the fun and perfectly safe elements of Halloween and celebrate the fun side only. There is a strict rule in our house, however, that no demonic or horror costumes are allowed. AND as of last year, we’ve started a tradition to throw a cool Halloween party each year for my kids and their friends so we can party with an awesome theme at our house with fun activities and more candy that they know what to do with! A safer alternative to trick-or-treating.
Quick confession: It has become a tradition at our Halloween parties to rock out and get down to Michael Jackson’s Thriller!!!
I’m not sure my decision is a popular one amongst my church going friends, but it is my decision and Halloween has become one of my favorite holidays to do a party due to the awesome chance to transform my house and have kids come over in costumes and celebrate the imagination and creativity of children!
I have been waiting with such anticipation for September to arrive to begin sharing things that inspire me for Halloween parties. Starting today I will be sharing those with you as well as my first annual Halloween Bash last year that was a Monster High theme! And I’ll give you a sneak peek of this year’s theme.
With that said, Let the Halloween inspiration begin!!!!
