Hey party peeps!
It’s Day 2 of Doodle Week! I debuted my new series “Trend Alert” over on Hostess With The Mostess yesterday that featured a fabulous Doodle Cake made by Rosie of Sweetapolita! I’m going to show you my twist on this Doodle Cake trend by creating a Doodle Mini Cake Bar!
Rosie made this rainbow cake for her daughter’s birthday then covered it with plain white fondant. She then let her daughter decorate it herself with edible markers! How clever and cute is that! My daughter would LOVE to do this! Click here for Rosie’s recipe to make this gorgeous cake!
How to incorporate the Doodle Cake trend into your next party…
Set up a Doodle Mini Cake Bar Activity!
This Doodle Cake Bar would be a great activity addition to a Doodle Party theme. It’s interactive and allows for a fun creative way for you guests to design their own cake and have a sweet favor to take home or enjoy at the party!
NOTE: This activity is NOT an inexpensive one! In fact, the cakes themselves can cost anywhere up to $40 per cake! So, if you have the budget or a small guest list…go for it! If you are a good baker, however, you can make these yourself and save a ton of money but you will need the right tools & know-how. See below for the link to my Pinterest board for links & tutorials to make these yourself.
LOOK FOR LESS: BFF DOODLE MINI CAKE BAR FOR 2!
Here I’m going to show you how you can still include this fun activity into your next party by hosting a BFF LET’S Doodle Party Playdate for your child and ONE of their BFFs! Keeping your guest list to 2 keeps your costs way down!
How did she do that?
It’s as simple as 1-2-3!
Step 1: Order one mini cake covered with plain white fondant for each guest
You can order these from a bakery. They range from 4″-6″ and come both single and double layered. Many grocery store bakeries do not have fondant covered cakes, so you may need to contact a local bakery shop in your area.
Step 2: Order edible markers to decorate the cakes
According to Rosie from Sweetapolita, these Americolor edible markers are the best ones to use to get those bright vibrant colors seen on her cake! The link to purchase these are on my Pinterest board (see below). They come 10 to a pack for $14. For this party, you will only need one set.
TIP: For a larger guest list, I would order one pack for every 4 guests.
Step 3: Create a display table for your Cake Bar including my “Let’s Doodle!”© Printables
Start with a small round table. Display the cakes on mini cake stands and place the markers in a clear jar so you can see the pretty colors. Use the “Let’s Doodle!”© printable poster in the center of your table and place the 3” circle printables personalized with each guest’s name in the center of each cake. I place my name circles on plastic silly straws as an added whimsical element!
To celebrate Doodle Week, I’m offering my “Let’s Doodle!” custom party printables at a sale price of $25 for a limited time! (regular price: $45) You may order them now to get the sales price and have them personalized later closer to your party date. Click here to view the printables.
