Hey party peeps!
This week on the blog is Character Week! I’m excited today to share with you Mickey Mouse Party Ideas from a party I designed for a friend of mine. Mickey Mouse parties have been done so many times that I just wanted to do a fun party with bright colors inspired by the Disney Junior TV show, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and NOT use any commercial party supplies.
HOW DID SHE DO THAT?
DESIGN PLAN: MICKEY MOUSE PARTY DECORATIONS
This party was so fun to design. I decided to design a Mickey Mouse Playhouse Party theme with primary colors and featuring, not only Mickey Mouse, but all his friends too in the decor with plush toys!
Decor highlights include:
• Foam puzzle table runner
• Plush character toy centerpieces
• Envelope placecards
• Colored canopies & umbrellas with hanging lanterns
• Bright colored beach balls all over the yard
This party was outside and the yard was HUGE so I had plenty of area to create a playhouse environment for the birthday boy and his friends. When designing a party outside it’s important to have plenty of shady areas. If there are no trees that will do this naturally for you, you will need to bring in canopies and umbrellas. I happen to love the look of color-coordinated canopies and umbrellas. It provides a burst of color to fill in an empty yard and provides an area to hang colored lanterns to bring in extra pops of bright colors.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: In Central California, balloons outside normally don’t work well due to the windy conditions, so hanging lanterns from the ceilings of canopies and umbrellas is one of my tricks in getting color up high without having to use balloons. My other trick for filling up a large yard with pops of color is scattering the yard with brightly colored inflatable beach balls.
MICKEY MOUSE SWEETS & FAVOR BAR!
Notice that I placed the sweets and favor bar INSIDE the house. Most of the candy that was on the sweets bar was packaged or individually wrapped and could be placed outside in a shady spot, but I wanted to display the cupcakes as a centerpiece on the table and sun and icing DO NOT MIX! The icing will literally melt right off the cupcakes! BELIEVE ME…I’m embarrassed to say I know this from experience 😉 Also, that fabulous jumbo Mickey head balloon that I was dying to use as the centerpiece would have blown away!
GIRLFRIEND TIP: When adding candy or favor items to your sweets & favor bar that don’t really match, remove the labels from them and replace it with printables or in this case, I removed the labels from the bottles of bubbles and wrapped them with red paper and added a puffy character sticker to each one.
MICKEY MOUSE PLAYHOUSE GAME ZONE!
This party was a one year old birthday party. Normally the guests’ ages can range from toddler to teen so I’ve found that setting up an interactive self-serve Game Zone is the perfect activity for many ages. The kids and even adults really get into the games. To bring in the Disney characters, I simply added cutouts of each character and adhered them to color coordinated game signs.
Game Zone Games included:
• Scavenger hunt
• Water balloon toss
• Bean Bag toss
• Kick ball
• Craft & coloring station
• Board games, card games and puzzles (Disney Games in a Box)
• Ball pickup
I hope some of these ideas have given you some ideas for your next Mickey Mouse party. The great thing is, most of these ideas can work with any theme. What kinds of cool things have you done for a Mickey Mouse party you’ve done. Leave a comment below and share 😉
Designing an unique character party can be challenging, but if you follow my 7 simple steps to pulling off a character party without using any commercial party supplies, it’s easy! Check out this post I wrote a while ago showing how I designed a Lalaloopsy party without using any commercial party supplies.

Can you tell me where I can get that foam table runner?
Tonya says
It’s actually a foam puzzle that I found at the Dollar Tree. I put 4 of them together to make the runner.
