Hey party peeps! Have you heard of Monster High? If not, I’m sure your little girls know them all too well. They are the hot new trend right now for kids & tweens with collections of dolls, dress up items, party goods, cartoon series and movies. The latest DVD release is a “Clawsome Double Feature” Fright On! and Escape from Skull Shores which my daughter, Riley, watches almost every day. It wasn’t hard to guess that she would choose a Monster High Party as the theme for our end of the summer party!
Be sure to scroll down to the end of this post to find out how you can ENTER TO WIN your own Monster High Gift Pack including an Operetta Monster High Doll, DVD and more sponsored by Mattel and Birthday Express!
THE DESIGN:
When coming up with a design plan for the party, Riley requested it be designed around her favorite Monster High doll, Draculaura, so the color palette was easy–hot pink, black and white based on the dolls coloring and outfit. I also worked in my spin on the signature Monster High argyle pattern with this gorgeous table runner and bunting from Cupcake With Character. Riley’s favorite Draculaura doll right now is from the “Dead Tired” collection where she is wearing pajamas, so we decided on a Monster High Sleepover party complete with a screening of her favorite Monster High DVD movie, dress up and games.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: Use Monster High dolls in the party decor on display tables AND use cardboard life-size standups to create different themed areas in the party space.
Monster High Movie & Dinner!
We kicked off the party with dinner and screening of the new Monster High DVD movie to set the tone and get the girls in the mood for all the themed Monster High activities to come. The girls popped their own PopSecret microwave popcorn which I gave to them in these super cute Monster High popcorn boxes and they helped themselves to “Draculaura” blood punch (fruit punch) which was super funny to Riley and her friends because Draculaura actually hates blood! While they watched the movie and munched on the popcorn, the pizza arrived and they moved to a table I setup close to the TV so they could continue to watch the movie while they ate pizza.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: I usually only use one commercial party supply on a dining table. This time it was Monster High paper plates from Birthday Express because I just loved the design. Whenever I use character paper plates on a dining table, however, I ALWAYS place them on top of chargers which gives them a more high-end look. If I use a commercial paper party supply, I will finish the table’s design with more high-end items like a custom centerpiece, cloth napkins with napkin rings and fabric tablecloth.
Monster High Ghoul Glam Bar!
The “Ghoul Glam” Bar was stocked with lots of dress up items for each guest including a black tutu, headband, bracelet, striped leg warmers and pink spider hair bows displayed on these fabulous Sequin Sparkle Sticks from Made by a Princess. Each guest had her own case full of these goodies to dress up in for the party and to take home including Draculara makeup kits! They LOVED this!
GIRLFRIEND TIP: In styling this table I used a life-size standup of Draculaura to really bring a wow factor to this area. Once the girls were done getting dolled up, I used the standup as a photo prop for the girls to take pictures with so I got double-duty from it!
Monster High Photo Booth & Props!
The standups are PERFECT to use as photo booth props. When the girls were all dolled up at the Glam Bar they took photos with Draculaura and had fun posing with these fang lips printable photo booth props.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: To customize the tshirt that Riley is wearing, I simply put one of the sparkly Monster High stickers on it! Instant custom! Yay!
Monster High Party Mystery Box!
This activity is SO MUCH FUN and super easy to do. Since Monster High characters are monsters, I thought it would be fun to do a creepy activity called Mystery Boxes where I fill buckets with items that have a texture similar to what’s inside the boxes like silly string balls for Brains and rice for Fangs which gets the best reaction from your guests when they stick their hands inside the box! Lagoona’s Fish Eyes were actually peeled cold grapes! That one got the most “EWWWWS!”
Monster High Sweets Table!
Since the guest list was small, I only placed a small amount of loose candy in bowls and included favors on the table to help fill it up like these Monster High Sticker books. The Draculaura fang candy kabobs by Sweets Indeed and the signature Monster High skullette bow cookies by Carabella Creations by Shauna were so fabulous they actually added to the decor of the table! How fabulous is that black sequin table cloth and black wood stands by Hello My Sweet that make a gorgeous rustic display for the cupcakes.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: Use a lifesize standup as the centerpiece to your table like I did here with the Clawdeen Wolf standup from Birthday Express. Such a wow factor and you don’t have to spend money on a centerpiece! When you have a smaller guest list you can also splurge on more high-end favor boxes (instead of paper bags) like these Monster High tins that were the perfect size to hold all their sweets at the end of the party.
Monster High Sleepover Cookies & Milk Bar!
To end the night, the girls all got into their pajamas, enjoyed some milk and cookies while I read to them a few chapters of Riley’s Monster High book leaving them wanting more. This spurred the girls’ imaginations so I encouraged them to imagine what happens next and when I left them for the night snuggled in their sleeping bags, I could hear them telling their own stories of what happened next!
GIRLFRIEND TIP: Reading stories to girls this age was just the thing to wind down and get cozy which I highly recommend when doing a sleepover to keep me sane mostly and prevent utter mayhem when I leave them for the night! PSST…wondering where I got those super cute pink Monster High pillows? Well they are actually doll pillows with a Monster High sticker on the front! Yes…a sticker!

Each station is so full of fabulous details. I love how you incorporated the Monster High brand without overdoing it! The printable party collection is perfect. Everything looks AMAZING! My daughter is drooling over the Draculaura inspired station. (She’s her favorite). Great job.
Birthday Express actually sent almost all of the Monster High commercial party supplies and I took that as a challenge to do my thing with them in a way that was true to my design style and still be able to create a unique looking party event with commercial party supplies. They had EVERYTHING you could want. Styling is key so it doesn’t look too overdone. Thanks so much for the complement and noticing Marie!
