Happy holidays party peeps! I know you guys are busy finishing up your holiday shopping and today I’d like to share with you my idea to Give the Gift of Movie Night with Guardians of the Galaxy! In this time where everyone is super busy with school, work and parenthood—time and memories with our families become that much more precious. I don’t know about you, but as I get older I appreciate gifts where memories are made instead of a physical gift like those fabulous boots that I’ve been eyeing!
This idea of giving a movie night came about because I repeatedly saw my Dad so excited to take the kids to the theatre when new movies came out but my 3 year old son could never go as he is just too young to sit in the theatre for that long. So he would watch as my other 2 daughters and my 2 nephews would go off with Pop-Pop to have a movie date.
So, I decided for Christmas this year, I would give my family the gift of a movie night celebrating the DVD release of Guardians of the Galaxy! We are all HUGE MARVEL FANS and everyone but me and my 3 year old had seen it in the movies already. We were counting down the days until the movie’s DVD release on December 9th!
HOW DID SHE DO THAT?
If you have been following me for a while now, you know that movie nights are HUGE in my house. With a 3 year old, 6 and 11 year old, it’s hard to take all 3 kids to the movies, as the youngest won’t sit still long enough to watch it, so… DVD releases have become just as big in my house as theatre movie releases. Many times we are seeing movies for the first time on DVD so…we make a BIG DEAL about them. I pull out my popcorn maker, fill it with microwave popcorn, stock the table with theatre style candy and when it’s a movie they are REALLY excited about seeing — I admit I do go the extra mile and try to create an experience for them. My kids and nephews were so excited when they woke up that morning and were presented with Guardians of the Galaxy t-shirts to wear to movie night that night. I also surprised my daughter with a costume of Gamora to wear (Gamora is her favorite character from the movie). They were excited ALL DAY!
SET THE SCENE & DRESS THE PART
To make this Guardians of the Galaxy movie night even more special, I created an interactive party experience I was sure my family would love! When they entered the room I had the movie’s soundtrack playing with the main screen from the movie on the TV which just happens to be a cassette tape player which was perfect! You should have seen everyone dancing around!
GIRLFRIEND TIP: Be sure to have all the popcorn popped and ready to go when guests arrive. I fill up the popcorn maker too so that guests can replenish their bowls when they need more. I also use frozen cups with lids for all the kids so that their drinks stay cold and my carpet stays spill-free! Since all the cups are blue, I put a different color straw in each one so they can keep track of their own cup.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY FAVOR BAR
To give the party a WOW-FACTOR, I setup a Galactic Favor Bar and decorated it with toys from the movie like this Big Blastin’ Rocket Raccoon Action Figure, Star-Lord Battle Gear sets (Hero mask & mini blaster) and Star-Lord 12” action figure. You can only imagine the jumping up and down that happened when my sister announced to the kids that all the toys were gifts for them to take home. Even the adults had a blast dressing up in Star-Lord’s Battle Mask and running around shooting each other with Star-Lord’s blasters and Rocket Raccoon’s laser blaster! I also gave an additional copy of the Guardians of the Galaxy DVD to my sister’s family to take home.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: I was able to find EVERYTHING I needed at Walmart and Walmart.com including the DVD, toys, soundtrack, t-shirts, costume, popcorn, candy and drinks! I ordered the toys, t-shirts and costume a week before the movie’s release and purchased those using the Site to Store option on Walmart.com which was convenient since I could order all the items I wanted online and then pick them up in the store at the same time I went to buy the DVD on the day it released along with the popcorn and snacks I needed for my movie night. A one-stop-shop which makes my life as a busy mompreneur that much easier!
GIVE THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY DVD AS A TAKE HOME FAVOR
To thank my sister’s family for coming, they took home the DVD combo pack as a party favor that comes with an exclusive character O-sleeve (I chose Rocket Raccoon as it was my nephew’s favorite character), an exclusive music zinepac, a 64 page magazine with cast and crew interviews, exclusive behind-the-scenes photos and trivia PLUS a custom “cassette” laptop decal. That is a gift all in itself!
GIVE A GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY MOVIE NIGHT AS A GIFT
Giving this movie night experience is as simple as giving the Guardians of the Galaxy DVD and toy along with a box of microwave popcorn and theatre style boxed candy displayed in a gift basket or wrapped up inside a box.
We had such a good time and memories were definitely made which really is the ULTIMATE GIFT…right?
