Hey party peeps! Today I’m going to show you How to Throw an App Themed Art Party with Disney Creativity Studio 2!. If you’re like me and have kids you know that winter can be so hard with the kids having to stay indoors so much of the time. Where we live, it gets really cold so the kids rarely play outside in the winter. To pass the time, my kids spend hours on their iPads playing apps. So it wasn’t surprising when my daughter Riley requested her next playdate to be based on her favorite new app, Disney Creativity Studio 2! Thanks to Disney for sending us the app to review!
APP THEMED PARTIES ARE THE HOT NEW TREND!
Apps are gaining an incredible amount of popularity with young kids. So much so that my kids are spending more time playing apps than they are playing their video games! They are so popular that app themes are now being requested for birthday parties. Not surprising, but what do you do when your child requests a birthday party theme based on an app and there aren’t any party supplies out there for it? It’s easy if you follow my 5 EASY STEPS! Time to get CREATIVE!
CHOOSE A VENUE INSPIRED BY THE APP!
For me, this was easy! Disney Creativity Studio 2 is an art themed app. For the party, I wanted to create an environment of an art studio, but didn’t necessarily want the mess that comes with an art party. Paint…etc…no thanks! So, what’s a mom to do? I chose to do the party at a local kids’ art studio in my city called Kidcreate Studio. They do private art parties, provide all the art supplies (paint, paper, aprons, etc) and I don’t have to worry about any mess or cleanup in my house! LOVE THAT!
GIRLFRIEND TIP: Choose a venue who’s decor matches your party theme so you don’t have to spend a fortune bringing items in. For this, the studio was perfect! They had drawing walls, drawing tables, colorful painted walls and kid-height chairs and tables already there so my decor needs were minimal. Imagine trying to do a fairy garden themed party in a ballroom and all the decor you would have to bring in to pull off a garden atmosphere instead of just having the party at a park with free trees, plants and picnic tables!
DECORATE YOUR PARTY WITH ITEMS INSPIRED BY THE APP!
The app is based on creating fabulous finished art pieces by starting with a simple black and white drawing sheet and then turning them into fabulous finished art pieces by coloring and decorating them with online paintbrushes, crayons, markers, and more in every color of the rainbow so I decided to design the party with a color palette of black and white with pops of rainbow colors.
Since this party wasn’t in my home, I focused on quick and easy-to-assemble decor items that would travel well to bring the party’s theme into the venue space. These cardboard Disney character standups seen in the app were perfect for this. They fold down for easy travel and are super lightweight but when assembled add a large wow-factor to the party space. I also brought my own paint splattered table runner, lightweight CREATE letter centerpiece and matching paper supplies to easily decorate the venue’s dining table in my theme.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: To bring in my own decor, I had to request an additional hour of setup from the venue. They were more than accommodating since they didn’t have a party scheduled before mine. If you want to bring in additional decor into a venue, be sure to request the additional time and be flexible with your party’s time (first party or last one of the day on a non-busy day usually yields the best results for accommodating additional setup time).
CREATE PARTY ACTIVITIES THAT ARE BASED ON THE APP!
Disney Creativity Studio 2 is an app that provides dozens of digital coloring sheets that kids can use the variety of online paintbrushes, markers, crayons, stickers, etc. to PAINT, DRAW AND DECORATE their own works of art. For the party, I simply brought these activities to life and used the different Disney character standups to customize each of the art activities the kids would do at the party.
DECORATE & COLOR Anna’s Playhouse!
The kids LOVED this one! The 3D cardboard house is about 4’tall and the kids can actually go inside it. They colored it in and added fun embellishments like flower stickers to it to make it their own.
CREATE Elsa’s Castle!
This is a signature art project at Kidcreate Studio! They have all the supplies to create a cool artistic castle for Elsa!
PAINT a House for a Palace Pet!
What kid doesn’t love to paint! Washable paint is a must with young kids and they had a blast painting in the houses for each of the Palace Pet toys that also doubled as take home favors for the girls.
DOODLE WALL with Mickey & Minnie!
It is AMAZING what kids will draw when just given a blank piece of paper. I am always amazed at the creativity and imagination that I see when they are done…from a shark spaceship to a parachuting soldier to BFFs, these doodle were definitely frame-worthy.
DRAW a scene for Baymax!
Where’s Baymax? This is a fun activity that was inspired by the app where you can draw your favorite character in a scene with different background tools. The kids were given a plain sheet with just a line drawing of Baymax and were asked to use their imagination to draw anywhere they wanted Baymax to be!
SERVE SWEETS THAT MATCH THE APP’S THEME!
My favorite part of any of my parties is the Sweets Bar! I just love coming up with creative ways to display yummy desserts like these colorful cake balls displayed like a painter’s palette and clear paint buckets filled with colorful gumballs. I always call on my team of dessert designers to create themed desserts and they NEVER disappoint. Check out these chocolate paint palette lollipops, mini donuts and chocolate covered oreos in every color of the rainbow.
Keeping with the CREATE theme, the kids all decorated their own cupcake with Wilton sparkle gels (don’t they look like little paint tubes), colorful sprinkles and topped with yarn pom cupcake toppers that look like splats of paint towering above the cupcake. Cute, right?
SEND YOUR GUESTS HOME WITH THEMED FAVORS!
I printed several coloring sheets from the app and created an app coloring book and filled this Mickey Mouse bucket with crayons and a Mickey drinking cup to take home. The boys also got a special Lightning McQueen racing shirt and the girls got to take home the Palace Pet toys.
Just follow my steps here when you throw your next app themed party and you’ll be all set! Check out the Disney Creativity Studio 2 App here for more creative online art fun for your kids!
