Hey party peeps! It’s movie night once again in our house! We have a movie night a few times a month and we LOVE IT! This weekend it was THE BOXTROLLS FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT which was particularly exciting because my family hasn’t seen it yet. I’ve heard great things about it so I was excited to enjoy it with my family. Without giving too much of the story away, the movie is about a boy named Eggs who was raised by a group of trolls who love to build things from trash they collect during the night in the city above the sewers where they live. It has a great family lesson of believing in yourself, standing up to injustice and classism. My family had quite the conversation when it was over. Dancing to the music that plays on the DVD while waiting for it to start has become a tradition with my family as you can see!
TOWER OF POPCORN!
I saw these cool plastic stackable jars in the party section of Walmart that actually are meant to hold candy, but I thought they would be perfect to hold individual portions of popcorn for each of the kids! Inspired by The Boxtrolls in the movie, who are builders, I stacked the popcorn containers one on top of each other until they made a tall Tower of Popcorn! The kids loved this new display for the popcorn. As usual, the kids fill up our popcorn maker with extras of our favorite Pop Secret microwave popcorn so they can help themselves to more during the movie.
POPCORN MIX-IN BAR!
On a recent trip to Walmart I saw The Boxtrolls DVD had just released so I picked it up along with our favorite Pop Secret microwave popcorn. We love the movie theatre flavor and have it for every movie night. This time to give our movie night snack a different spin I decided to setup a Popcorn Mix-In Bar instead of having boxed movie candy with our popcorn which is what we normally do. My kids LOVED being able to come up with their own mix by adding scoops of chocolate covered raisins or candy coated chocolates to their popcorn. YOU MUST TRY THIS! It tastes amazing! The sweet and salty combination is so yummy. My favorite mix-in was the chocolate covered raisin which was awesome when put on the warm popcorn! The chocolate melted just a bit. YUMMY!
Have you seen The Boxtrolls movie yet? I won’t spoil it for you, but it has a GREAT lesson and our family had an awesome discussion about it afterwards. Gotta love a movie that teaches a valuable lesson AND encourages discussion with your kids. Grab The Boxtroll DVD and a 10ct box of Pop Secret Movie Theatre Butter Popcorn today from Walmart (while supplies last) and have a movie night with your family this weekend! Be sure to come back after you do and tell me what you thought about the movie.
WHAT DO YOU DO FOR YOUR FAMILY MOVIE NIGHTS?
Cheers!

I need those stackable dishes! So cute. We had a popcorn maker like that for a while but it seems like it took forever to pop the corn so we just use the air popper now. We use flavor seasonings on our movie nights. I dont keep a lot of sweets in the house, but I might have to try a mix in bar one night.
Pam says
I love the idea of a Popcorn Mix-in bar. Everyone in my house likes their popcorn prepared differently, so it’s hard to decide what kind to snack on during movie night.
