Hey party peeps! It’s that time of year…Basketball in March! Time to throw parties for all the games! Need ideas? Today I’m sharing with you my idea to setup a Basketball Party Candy Bar featuring Skittles! While watching the games, Skittles are the perfect sweet treat. They happen to be one of our favorites and their “Taste The Rainbow” tagline inspired this candy bar design.
LET’S GO SHOPPING!
I thought it would be cool to create a Skittles “Taste The Rainbow” Candy Bar where I would separate the candy by color and create a rainbow of candy containers with scoops so that guests could create their own rainbow mix. To do this I would need big bags of Skittles to fully stock a candy table and when I say big, I mean big! So I headed to my local Sam’s Club to pickup three 54 oz. bags of Skittles which was the exact amount I needed to fill each of my 5 clear candy bowls with each color candy. Look for the palette of 54 oz. bags of Skittles in your local Sam’s Club.
GIRLFRIEND TIP I got the kids and hubby involved in separating the candy by color…they spread the Skittles out on cookie sheets which made it easier to separate.
LET’S DECORATE!
To decorate this tablescape, I decided to go with a denim table cloth to bring in the blue color that was missing in the Skittles candy mix but was important for the rainbow concept. How fabulous is this basketball table prop set? The mini basketball backboards, bleacher seats and scoreboard are all I need to bring in the basketball theme. Then to create an actual rainbow of candy, I used 2 of my stackable candy jars to create a tall Rainbow Tower of Skittles! As guests arrive, I display the candy this way which always gets noticed and then once the game starts, I place each bowl out separately (lined up in the colors of the rainbow) along with candy scoops and black and white striped candy bags so that guests can make their own rainbow mix of Skittles then go sit down with and enjoy the game. When the party is over, guests can fill the bags with the leftover candy to make their own take-home goody bags.
GIRLFRIEND TIP When setting up a color coordinated candy bar, be sure to use clear containers so you can clearly see the colors of the candy.
HALFTIME GAMETIME!
At halftime, I use the basketball backboard props as a fun game! I know…I know…how can resist the urge to try and make a basket with these cool small foam basketballs! But it’s not that easy! Ramp up the competition by including a college basketball trivia game to the mix! Each person picks a card, another person reads them the question and if they get it right they get to take a shot trying to get the foam basketballs into the hoop. What a fun way to entertain your guests during halftime, right!

ARE YOU PLANNING A COLLEGE BASKETBALL PARTY THIS MARCH?
Why not try this idea. Your guests will love it. Candy buffets are just as popular with adults as they are with little kids. Watch how many oohs and aahs you get when you set up a candy bar like this!
Cheers!
