Hey party peeps! College basketball playoffs are in full effect! The perfect time to throw a party, right? Need some ideas? Well, check out my Basketball Party Snack Bar featuring Cheez-Its! and my recipe for Cheez-It crusted meatballs.
LET’S GO SHOPPING!
Cheez-Its are on sale for 3/$8 at Target. So off to Target I go. I used my Target’s Cartwheel app on my phone to save an additional 35% off the sale price when I bought 3 varieties of Cheez-Its. Can’t beat that deal, right! I bought three since I was going to use half the box of regular Cheez-Its in my meatball recipe and the other two boxes are their new Grooves flavors that I’ve been dying to try.
Next stop…my local party store to pickup some basketball themed paper goods like plates and napkins. I also own this fabulous custom made basketball prop set (hoop backboard and bleacher stands) which adds the perfect themed touch to my snack bar and does double duty to hold the black and white referee striped snack cups which hold the perfect individual portion of Cheez-Its!
GIRLFRIEND TIP I usually only use glassware at my parties, but when it’s game time I like to put out paperware for easy cleanup and guests can revisit the Snack Bar multiple times without having to dirty up a bunch of dishes for me to clean after everyone leaves.
LET’S GET COOKIN’ MY CHEEZ-IT CRUSTED MEATBALLS!
Here’s what you’ll need:
– bag of fully cooked frozen meatballs (thawed)
– flour, eggs (beaten), vegetable oil
– toothpicks
– dipping sauces (I used honey mustard, bbq, and hot wing sauce)
– 1 box of Cheez-Its or Zesty Cheddar Ranch Grooves (crushed)
GIRLFRIEND TIP I don’t know about you, but I LOVE to cook but seriously don’t have a whole lot of time on my hands as a busy Mom-preneur so I take short cuts when I can! For this recipe, I grab a bag of FULLY COOKED frozen meatballs, thaw them out the night before the game and the next day, I only have few steps to make these. If you make your meatballs from scratch, just be sure to bake them after you’ve fried them to make sure they are cooked completely through.
Step 1: Crush the Cheez-Its
Place the Cheez-Its into a plastic bag and pound them until they are crushed
Step 2: Bread the Meatballs
Make a breading station of flour, eggs and the crushed Cheez-Its and roll the meatballs in the flour first, then roll in the eggs and then coat in the crushed Cheez-Its until fully coated.
Step 3: Fry the Meatballs
Heat up the oil until hot before you add in the meatballs. Add them to the frying pan and brown on all sides. When done, transfer them to a paper towel to drain the excess oil from the meatballs.
Step 4: Serve with Dipping Sauces
For extra flavor and fun, I put out an assortment of individual cups of dipping sauces that guests can take with their plate of meatballs.
GIRLFRIEND TIP Be sure to put out multiples of the dipping sauces so that you aren’t running back and forth trying to replenish them the entire game. Shown here is just one of each variety.
- 1 bag of fully cooked frozen meatballs (thawed)
- flour, eggs (beaten), vegetable oil
- dipping sauces (I used honey mustard, bbq, and hot wing sauce)
- 1 box of Cheez-Its or Zesty Cheddar Ranch Grooves (crushed)
- Step 1: Crush the Cheez-Its – Place the Cheez-Its into a plastic bag and pound them until they are crushed
- Step 2: Bread the Meatballs – Make a breading station of flour, eggs and the crushed Cheez-Its and roll the meatballs in the flour first, then roll in the eggs and then coat in the crushed Cheez-Its until fully coated.
- Step 3: Fry the Meatballs – Heat up the oil until hot before you add in the meatballs. Add them to the frying pan and brown on all sides. When done, transfer them to a paper towel to drain the excess oil from the meatballs.
- Step 4: Serve with Dipping Sauces – For extra flavor and fun, I put out an assortment of individual cups of dipping sauces that guests can take with their plate of meatballs.
