Hey party peeps! If you have a tween in your home, I’m sure you know all about the upcoming Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards airing on Saturday, March 28th. This year I spur-of-the-moment decided to throw a viewing party for my tween daughter and 2 of her friends! Since it was not a planned party, my budget is tight, so I’m going into my Look For Less bag of tricks and today I’m sharing my Look for Less Tips for a Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Party for Tweens with all of you. You have a few more weeks to go before the big night, so you can use some of my tips to throw a fabulous party for your tweens! First things first…
CREATE THE THEME!
This was easy actually! I pulled up the awards show online and saw that it is live in California where it is warm and sunny. NOT warm and sunny here in the midwest where we live…but I digress! I also found out that the official drink sponsor this year is Capri Sun Roarin’ Waters which just happens to be a staple in our house. I thought it would be fun to combine both the “Roarin’ Waters” and celebrity feel of California award shows and decided to pull out my beach themed decor to decorate the party and create a “Baby You’re A Star” celebrity theme. You’ll have to wait for part 2 of this post to see all the decor pulled together in a fabulous “Baby You’re A Star” party design complete with Backstage Passes, Celebrity Green Room, Paparazzi Photo Booth and more!
GIRLFRIEND TIP Looking for color inspiration? I am a fan of color themed parties and this was no different. I pulled the party colors from the iconic orange blimp award that is given out to all the winners at the award show and combined that with the bright blue of the Capri Sun Roarin’ Waters package label and bright lime green which of course is a signature color for Nickelodeon.
TIP #1: SHOP LOCAL!
Shopping local helps keep your budget low so you don’t wrack up lots of shipping charges from various online retailers. I go one step further and when working on a budget and like to do most, if not all, of my party prep shopping in one store. Walmart was perfect for this party as they had everything I needed all in one place from paper goods, containers, favors, favor bags to food, drinks, candy, t-shirts and more! Here are a few things I picked up–balloons, glow stick party favors, paper goods and more!
TIP #2: CUSTOM MONOGRAMMED FAVOR BAGS USING FOAM LETTERS!
I use this trick all the time! You can get a custom personalized look to your favor bags without having to print all of your guest’s names on them. Instead I use their first initial and purchase inexpensive foam letters (found in the craft supply aisle) to personalize color coordinated paper favor bags (found in the gift wrap section). The letters have adhesive stickers on the back so sticking them to the fronts of the bags is super easy!
TIP #3: CREATE A CANDY BAR WITH COLOR COORDINATED CANDY!
Being able to find candy locally in certain colors used to be really hard. Now you can simply go to the candy aisle and there are lots of options for buying certain colors of candy. I purchased several different candies in my party colors of green, orange and blue. My daughter just recently saw the Spongebob Squarepants movie and loved it, so I also picked up a few bags of Spongebob themed candy to use on the Candy Bar! I will be using all three gumballs in a cool game where the girls will use them as entries into a cool game we’ll play at the party. Want to know what it is? Okay, okay….I’ll give you this “girlfriend” sneak peek.
GIRLFRIEND TIP Add some interactive fun to your party while the girls are watching the awards. When the girls arrive they will each be given a sheet with all the award categories and nominees. They will guess who will win by checking them off. When the award show is going on, the girls who guessed correctly will place their colored gumball into their specific bowl. At the end of the show, the person with the most gumballs (correct guesses) WINS a cool take-home basket full of goodies.
TIP #4: USE COLOR COORDINATED PAPER GOODS!
Found in the party supply aisle, you can pick up literally any color you can imagine in plates, cups, napkins and cutlery. I scooped up a mix and match of my party’s colors and the fact that they are disposable is a plus for me when hosting a night time party where the last thing I want to do is stay up washing dishes!
TIP #5: SINGLE SERVE THEMED DRINKS!
Capri Sun Roarin’ Waters is a staple in our house. They are easy for the kids to grab from the fridge when they want something quick to drink and me as a mom feel great knowing they are better-for-you then other sugary alternatives. Be on the lookout for the Kids’ Choice Awards Capri Sun Roarin’ Waters display in Walmart where you can pick up the 3-box pack (30 individual pouches) which is perfect for a party! I picked up two of these so I can create a Capri Sun Roarin’ Waters Drink Station in the Celebrity Green Room for the party! Be sure to check back for part 2 of the post so you can see it.
GIRLFRIEND TIP Tween viewing parties are perfect for single serve drinks! They can open them with no problem and can grab as many as they want as they are watching a movie or in this case, the awards show! No need to have cups to keep up with.
