Hey party peeps! As you guys know, we have just become homeowners and I’ll be sharing on my blog over the next few months some of my home decorating projects. Today it was my tween daughter’s turn to get a style makeover in her bedroom. Join me as I show you How to Style a Tween Bedroom Bookcase with affordable items I found at Target. Styling for a tween is hard. You have to strike just the right balance between a grown up room and still be kid-friendly. Keeping the color palette black and white with pops of white and pink were perfect in creating this balance.
STYLE THE TOP!
I love using shorter bookcases as it allows for the top of the bookcase to be used for things that tweens can grab easily within reach and it also provides a surface area for a lamp which I love in a bedroom as it provides such a cozy atmosphere. Here I picked up a cute pink trimmed linen lampshade that went perfectly with the clear glass lamp base. Target has an entire section of mix and match lamp bases and shades, so you can mix and match to find one that you really like. My daughter is also really into animals so I picked up this ceramic whale that she just thought was grown up! SCORE FOR MOMMY!
GIRLFRIEND TIP: Since I used such a bold zebra pattern in the fabric bins, I opted to use monochromatic accessories with a pops of a bright pink to give the overall design a modern yet whimsical look.
ORGANIZE THE CLUTTER WITH FABRIC BINS!
I LOVE bookcases. As a stylist, each and every shelf is a new opportunity to style something amazing. But, when you’re working with a tween bedroom it becomes a little less about fashion and A LOT about function! My tween daughter has lots of random stuff, from toys to headbands to cds and they seem to always land on every available surface space. So for this makeover, I decided to tame the clutter with bins! Pick up a few fabric boxes that match your room’s colors. They fit perfectly onto the shelves of this 2-shelf bookcase.
STYLE THE WALLS!
When styling shorter bookcases, it’s important to also style the wall right above the bookcase for a unified look. Target had these inspirational wall art canvases that happened to fit perfectly above my bookcase. To give it a whimsical look, I staggered them on the wall. This was my daughter’s favorite part as she LOVED what they said!
Well, this is project #2 for the new house. What do you think?
WHERE DID SHE GET THAT?
