Monster High Party — Gloom & Bloom featuring Amanita Nightshade
When Mattel sent me the new Monster High Gloom & Bloom collection of dolls including the star of the collection, Amanita Nightshade, I was so excited to get going. A Monster Garden Party! The theme was just so exciting! Here’s my chance to design a garden party with grundge AND glam! If you have Monster High fans in your house, I’m sure they’ll be asking for a Gloom & Bloom party soon.
HOW DID SHE DO THAT?
First of all, before I design the party plan I watched the webisodes featuring Amanita so I can get a good idea of her story and I could really incorporate details into the party that were specific to her story. Amanita is quite the DIVA! She stays asleep in a Corpse Flower for 1,300 years and on the night of her blooming, it is a BIG DEAL! Everyone at Monster High is there for her big debut. You can watch Amanita’s webisodes here:

SET THE SCENE — GHOUL GLAM!
When designing a party around a character or doll, I always take my design cues from the doll so that the atmosphere is transformed with the color palette and design elements of the doll. Here Amanita’s colors are purple, green and black and design elements of black vines and ghoulish flowers. Her dress had a vintage feel so I combined vintage, grundge and of course lots of GLAM! How cute is this custom letter that Sophisticated Life Designs & Creations made to match Amanita! A-MA-ZING! And this harlequin geometric purple & green floral printed backdrop from Backdrop Express was the perfect WOW-FACTOR I needed in the party space to bring in a gothic glam whimsical garden feel.
GET GHOUL-GLAM IN AMANITA’S CLOSET!
One of my signature party elements is getting the guests in the mood for the party when they first arrive by having them dress the part! Here my daughter and her BFFs were more than excited to visit Amanita’s Closet and dress up in her signature colors complete with custom monogrammed tshirts by Great Stitch, frilly pettiskirt tutus and of course Amanita’s signature flower hair clip! Grab your camera to catch all the photo ops once the girls are all ghoul-glammed up. Want to be a rock star mom? Announce to the kids that they will be able to take their dressup outfits AND one of the Ghoul Glam dolls displayed on the table home with them in their custom matching monogrammed tote bag and pillowcase! INSTANT ROCK STAR STATUS!
GIRLFRIEND TIP For this party I searched and searched for the perfect backdrop for Amanita’s closet and OMG…how perfect is this fabric background by Backdrop Express! The material is soft and flowing but the pattern is bold and the colors perfect for a ghoul glam garden party! AND…for my party stylists…no glare in photos! Gotta LOVE that!
TIME TO EAT! SET UP A SCARY-COOL GLOOM & BLOOM GARDEN DINING TABLE!
The wow factor of any dining table is the centerpiece and man, oh man…this one is scary cool and easy to do! Just fill three painted glittered mason jars by Just Add Glitter by Marla with glass gems and insert flower cookie pops by Auntie Bea’s Bakery in each one. Seriously…how fang-tactic is this Venus McFlytrap cookie! Then display a Monster High doll with it and you have an amazing centerpiece. AND…in true Amanita “diva” fashion, each guest must have their very own placesetting! While they were eating I played the Amanita webisodes on our smart TV. They really got into the theme after watching all of Monster High celebrating the blooming of the infamous Amanita Nightshade!
GIRLFRIEND TIP Creating custom chairs and plates is affordable and easy by using removable vinyl letters by Lavish Parties & Prints by Talia on each chair and placing one of my printable monogrammed plate inlays in between two clear plates. “Ghoul Glam Garden Party” printable collection available in my shop here.
CRAFT TIME! CREATE YOUR OWN SCARY-COOL CORPSE FLOWER!
Now that the girls have all watched the webisodes, it was time for them to celebrate Amanita’s blooming debut by making their own scary-cool Corpse Flower!
HERE’S HOW TO DO IT:
1. Paint a paper cup black or green.
2. When it’s dry, embellish it with glittery stickers and fill it with gravel.
3. To make the flower, use different sized paper punches and cut out a few sizes of circles from patterned papers. Or use pre-cut stickers and paper shapes to create a layered flower.
4. Glue the finished flower to a paper straw stem and wind black chenille stems around the straw to make your own thorny vines.
5. Insert your flower into the gravel-filled paper cup, and you’re done!
TIME FOR DESSERT! SERVE FREAKY-FAB GARDEN DESSERTS!
Set up a yummy sweets table for an undeniable WOW FACTOR to the party with Amanita as the star of the table of course! I had a custom woodcut made with her name by Ten23 Designs and displayed Amanita on top of a fabulous fondant faux cake that I decorated with this amazing fondant letter “A” wrapped in fondant black vines by Edible Details and lots of purple and green faux flowers! To make the desserts I called on my “SWEETS SQUAD” to create these amazing ghoul-glam sweet treats all inspired by Amanita like these cookies spelling out her name by Auntie Bea’s Bakery, vintage glam fondant flower topped cupcakes, chocolate covered oreos and cake pops by Roni’s Sugar Creations and sparkly mini donuts by Green Mountain Mini Baked. To add a touch of sparkle the cake pops were displayed on these freaky-fab rhinestone Sparkle Sticks™ by Made by a Princess.
GIRLFRIEND TIP Be sure to have bulk candy on hand in an assortment of apothecary jars like this 3-piece set from Koyal Wholesale so that the girls can make their own take home candy bags at the end of the party.

I am going to be 40 this year and I keep telling kiddo and my husband I want a Monster High party. When I was a little girl I had some Barbies that I would make into vampires and such. I loved making my dolls into characters from my books. Monster High would have broke my mothers bank if they were around when I was a kid.
