Hey party peeps!
This week I’m debuting my recap of our recent Fun Fridays trip to the 1st national stop of the Hello Kitty Supercute Friendship Festival! To celebrate I’m bringing back one of my most popular posts featuring Hello Kitty Party Ideas from a party I designed for one of my Bffs! The party was for my friend who was turning the big 30! She LOVES Hello Kitty so I created a girly girl party using no commercial party supplies!
HOW DID SHE DO THAT?
TRANSFORM YOUR SPACE!
As a professional party planner I am sometimes challenged with a party space that needs to be completely transformed in order to really pull off a fabulous theme. Here I had to totally transform this covered patio into a girly and fabulous Hello Kitty party space!
GIRLFRIEND TIP: Be sure to always check out your client’s party space atleast 30 days before the event so that you can take plenty of pictures and measurements to ensure you have all you will need to transform the space. If you party space is outside, be sure to view the party space at the exact time the party will be going on so you can see how the lighting will be in the party space. Will it be shady, will it be in direct sunlight? That way you can plan for umbrellas or a tent if needed to shade the party’s space.
DESIGN PLAN: HELLO KITTY PARTY DECORATIONS
The color palette was an easy choice–I just stuck to the colors of Hello Kitty herself. Pinks, white, black and of course a whole lotta bling!
Decor highlights include:
• Hello Kitty keychain napkin rings
• Designer printables
• Pink furry throw blanket tablecloths
• Hello Kitty craft corner for the kids
GIRLFRIEND TIP: When creating an adult party with a kiddie theme, it is best to design around a simple color palette to create a sophisticated look and use the character very sparingly. Add in glassware, bling and candles for an added glam touch.
HELLO KITTY SWEETS BAR
All I have to say is thank goodness for pink snowballs! These little cakes are great to display on a sweets bar and super yummy! They are always the first things to go. I totally lucked out and found these Hello Kitty marshmallow pops at Toys-R-Us. Since this was an adult party I used lots of glassware to hold all the sweets. As an added touch, I added some clear Hello Kitty makeup bags and charms as favors to the table.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: When designing sweets bars on a budget, one of my go-to tricks is to use Jet-Puffed Marshmallows in large containers to fill up the table. They are really inexpensive and go a long way since they are so big and bulky. Lucky for me, Walmart had pink and white jumbo Jet-Puffed Marshmallows…SCORE! OH…are you wondering what that bling tassle is hanging from the Marshmallow jar? It’s a drapery tie-back! Yup…how cute is that!
HELLO KITTY GIFT TABLE AND FAVOR BAR
In addition to creating an area for her guests to put her gifts, I also setup a favor bar in the same place so she gave all her friends a gift back. The favor boxes were satin pink round boxes that I punched a hole in the top and placed a faux flower bud into the top. Finish them off by placing a single rhinestone sticker on the front. Done! Super cute and really easy! I displayed these boxes on an acrylic cupcake stand for added visual impact! Doesn’t EVERYTHING look better displayed on a cupcake tower?
PRO GIRLFRIEND TIP: I found these large Hello Kitty plush toys used in the decor at Build-A-Bear Workshop. This was the only place I could find large ones. And when looking for unique character favor ideas…I almost always find things on Ebay.
HELLO KITTY KID CRAFT CORNER
Whenever there are kids coming to an adult party, I always setup a craft corner for them full of activities to keep them busy. This one had craft supplies to make whatever they wanted and puzzles.
PRO GIRLFRIEND TIP: A simple design trick I use all the time. See those cute Hello Kitty pink metal tins? Well, I have lots of these metal tins in my inventory in lots of colors to match all kinds of themes. To make them match a character party or any other type of theme, I don’t go buy themed pails. Instead I buy inexpensive character or themed magnets and stick them right on to the front of the pail instantly transforming it into a Hello Kitty pail. The best thing…they come right off…you don’t have to glue them on…and no sticky mess!
I hope some of these ideas have given you some ideas for your next Hello Kitty party. Have you done a Hello Kitty party without using any commercial party supplies? What ideas did you have? Leave a comment below and share 😉
