Hey party peeps! By now you all know that I’ve been busy this summer redecorating my new house. I’ve affectionately called it, “Project Home Redecorate”. In my last post I showed you how I added a modern glam look to my master bathroom. If you missed it, you can click here to see it. Today, I’m excited to share with you how to Perk Up Your Kid’s Bathroom with Fun Accessories! I found at Target. This project was so fun as their bathroom was pretty drab before I decorated it. We just had our entire house painted and the kids’ bathroom was painted in a light gray taupe color that matched the rest of the house so I knew I wanted to perk it up with bright, bold accessories to make it a fun place for my kids to start the day!
GIRLFRIEND TIP: Fall is right around the corner but I’m not ready to let go of the bright, vibrant feel of summer, so I let that be my inspiration as I shopped for bright, bold accessories to decorate the bathroom with. This design had to be gender neutral since I have both a son and two daughters. Decorating with an animal theme is always fun and gender-neutral. My kids also happen to be huge animal lovers, so this was the perfect theme to go with.
START WITH A WOW FACTOR SHOWER CURTAIN!
The shower curtain is the perfect place to really make a wow-factor statement. It’s really the biggest area that you have in a bathroom to create a big bold statement…it’s like a huge canvas! I started my search for the perfect shower curtain on Target.com and found a boutique collection called Deny Designs which had such bold and unique pieces that you couldn’t buy in stores. I was in heaven! I looked through pages and pages of really cool pieces until I caught my breath when I found this artistic and bold giraffe shower curtain. First of all, giraffes happen to be my favorite animal and my oldest daughter Faith is quite the little artist, so this was just perfect! When you walk into that bathroom you just can’t help but smile looking at the giraffe peeking out from inside.
CREATE A COLOR SCHEME!
Once you have your wow factor piece, you can use the colors in it to create your bathroom’s color scheme. I used a solid color for the bathroom staples like soap dispenser, toothbrush holder and trays. Target has these in a variety of colors to choose from. I went with the turquoise as it reminded me of the ocean and the sky. It also just so happens to be MY favorite color! I then added texture to the space with hand towels and bath wraps that complimented the room’s color scheme.
CREATE YOUR OWN FRAMED WALL ART!
I am a huge fan of creating my own wall art. There are many stock art websites out there that sell illustrations for as little as $1! Find some you like, print them out and then frame them. It’s that easy! For my kids’ bathroom I went with a theme of “Imagine & Explore” so I knew I wanted to find art that would match this theme. My husband and I always stress with our kids the importance of understanding the world around them so this colorful map was just the right touch! I added the text “Explore & Imagine” to the stock art to make it just perfect for the bathroom’s theme.
ADD INSPIRATIONAL DECOR PIECES!
This wall clock by Deny Designs was another treasure I found on Target.com that matched my colors and theme perfectly! Ever day when the kids walk into their bathroom they are inspired to “Be Awesome!” What a perfect way to start each day, right?
ADD WHIMSICAL AND COLORFUL ACCENTS!
Whenever I begin a new decorating project I look around my house and my party stash of inventory for pieces that may work well in the room’s design. For this, I wanted to add a tall pop of color to the top of the toilet. I remembered I had a tall all-white vase filled with bright green flowers from a previous party and knew it would be perfect! I love how the all-white vase contrasts with the bold, bright patterns I already had going on in the bathroom’s decor. While raiding my party inventory, I also found 3 all-white ceramic elephants that add a modern touch to the decor. To add a whimsical, unexpected touch I also added this ferris wheel candy holder from my party stash that repurposed to hold the some of the kids’ bath supplies.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: I know you’re wondering how in the world I found that tissue box with a lion on it that totally matched my bathroom decor! I just happened to find it while doing my regular grocery shopping at Target! They even had an elephant, turtle and lion tissues. I, of course, picked up a few of all three animals so I could switch them out when they were gone. Don’t forget to look in the tissue aisle when shopping for bathroom decor. Tissue boxes come in all kinds of cool colors and patterns now.
ADD A PERSONAL TOUCH WITH WALL ART!
Inspired by the artistic, hand-drawn feel of the giraffe shower curtain, I wanted to add additional wall art that was both artistic and personal to all three of my kids and also worked with the theme. Here I found three stock art sketches of all three of my kids’ favorite animals. This frame from Target was perfect as it allowed me to display all three sketches and allowed me to add my own “Imagine & Explore” design. The kids loved walking into their new bathroom and seeing their three favorite animals displayed on their walls!
