Hey party peeps! HALLOWEEN IS FAST APPROACHING! If you’ve followed me for a while you know this is my favorite holiday to decorate and come up with cool themes. Well, today I’m so excited to share with you my HALLOWEEN SPOOKY LAB PARTY! I’ve wanted to do a scientist party for a while now as my kids LOVE Science and I love how they are always so curious about how things work. We were browsing YouTube one day and came across some cool experiments with soda that my kids wanted to do over the summer, but we just never got around to it. So, when the opportunity came about to work on a Halloween party post featuring Fanta and OREO, I knew right away I would set up a Science Spooky Lab party with S.T.E.M. experiments as part of the party’s activities!
HOW DID SHE DO THAT?
SET THE SCENE FOR A SPOOKY LAB SCIENCE PARTY!
For a Halloween party you don’t have to decorate your entire house. I sometimes will just concentrate most of my decor on one area to create a WOW-FACTOR for the party like this Spooky Science Drink Station table. How amazing is this vinyl backdrop! It’s huge and provides a big area for decor by easily hanging it from a backdrop stand, curtain rod or attaching to your wall with removable adhesive tape. I also ordered a science chemistry set online so I could create a mini laboratory centerpiece for the table. Both of these totally set the scene for a Spooky Science party! Then I added a few spooky items like gummy eyeballs, gummy worms and this spooky cool IV drink dispenser…the kids really got a kick out of that!
DRESS THE PART WITH LAB COATS & GOGGLES!
We can’t have a Spooky Lab Science party without scientists! When guests arrive, have them visit the Spooky Lab Science table and pick up a lab coat and goggles. Dressing up is so fun at parties and seriously, how can you have a Halloween party without costumes! Now that the kids are all dressed as little scientists, it’s time for some FUN!
GIRLFRIEND TIP: I would suggest writing on the band of the goggles each child’s name so they can keep track of whose is whose. I would also do name tags for each guest to put on their lab coats too. The goggles and lab coats both serve double-duty as costumes for the party but also as take home favors for each guest! WIN-WIN!
SERVE SPOOKY DRINKS GUESTS MAKE THEMSELVES!
This table not only serves as your party’s decor wow-factor but it is also an interactive activity for your guests. Place all of the items you’ll need to make 2 drinks on the table and then let them make their own. Using the Fanta and OREOS I picked up on my recent trip to Walmart,
I served an OREO Graveyard Shake Shooter and a Fanta One-Eyed Scream-Cream Float. The kids LOVED making these…the gummy eyeballs were such a hit! Check out the recipes below so you can make these for your next Halloween party!
OREO GRAVEYARD SHAKE SHOOTERS!
Here’s what you need to make these:
– package of OREO cookies
– vanilla ice cream
– milk
– gummy worms
Here’s how to make these:
Set aside one OREO cookie for each guest and then crush the rest of them in a plastic storage bag. I think I may have had a bit too much fun pounding the cookies into little bits! Next, fill the blender with vanilla ice cream, milk and crushed OREOS (Don’t use all of the crushed OREOS. Set aside some for the topping) Blend until smooth then pour into cups bout 3/4 of the way full. Finally pour into the cups the crushed OREOS you set aside and place one full OREO halfway into the crushed cookie topping and then lay sour gummy worms on top creating a spooky graveyard! THAT’S IT!
FANTA ONE-EYED SCREAM-CREAM FLOATS!
Here’s what you need to make these:
– 2-liter of Fanta Orange soda
– vanilla ice cream
– gummy eyeballs
Here’s how to make these:
Super easy! Fill a cup 3/4 of the way full of vanilla ice cream. Pour the Fanta Orange soda SLOWLY into the cup being careful not to overflow the cup. Next add a gummy eyeball to the top and enjoy!
DECORATE HALLOWEEN PUMPKIN COOKIES!
Decorating cookies is always a hit at my parties. Let them decorate these with icing and sprinkles served in test tubes of course!
HAVE FUN WITH S.T.E.M. EXPERIMENTS!
Using the Fanta Orange soda and a few items you already have in your pantry, you can do these two cool science experiments your kids will love. Be sure the kids all have their lab coats and goggles on! SAFETY FIRST in the spooky lab!
INFLATE A BALLOON WITH FANTA, VINEGAR AND BAKING SODA!
Here’s what you need:
– 20 oz bottle of Fanta Orange soda
– baking soda
– white vinegar
Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Pour the vinegar into the bottle (about 1/4 cup)
Step 2: Using a funnel, add about 2 tablespoons of baking soda to the deflated ballon
Step 3: Holding the bottle steady, stretch the neck of the balloon over the top of the bottle’s opening. This is easier if one person holds the bottle while the other person stretches the balloon over the opening.
Step 4: Lift the balloon up over the bottle so that the vinegar pours into the bottle & watch as the reaction begins between the baking soda and vinegar. They fizz and turn into carbon dioxide which will begin to rise out of the bottle and into the balloon inflating it. You may have to shake the bottle a little bit if the reaction doesn’t start right away.
CREATE A VOLCANO ERUPTION WITH FANTA & MENTOS!
Now here’s the part where you will want to head outside. This will be messy as the eruption can spray to up to 20 feet in the air! OH YEAH! Your kids will love it!
Here’s what you need:
– 2-liter bottle of Fanta Orange soda
– 1 roll of Mentos candy (any flavor)
Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Remove all the Mentos candies from the wrapper
Step 2: Open the bottle of Fanta Orange soda
Step 3: Drop in the Mentos quickly (all at once if you can by making a paper funnel) and STAND BACK! The reaction is instant! A huge geyser of soda will shoot out of the bottle creating a volcanic eruption!
SEND YOUR GUESTS HOME WITH YUMMY PARTY FAVORS!
Send each guest home with a mini can of Fanta Orange soda, a pack of Glow-in-the-Dark OREOS and a few spooky cool favors like this 3-eyed fuzzy pencil and test tube bubbles.
