If you’ve been following me for a while you know that my daughter is a passionate DIY’er and with the holidays coming she decided to host a crafting party with her friends to make holiday gifts this year! Today’s post, Tween Crafting Gifts Party + DIY Washi Tape Party Decor is full of DIY ideas using Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape from party supplies to gift ideas!
HOW DID SHE DO THAT?
Well, it started with my daughter wanting to make gifts this year for her friends and while browsing the craft aisles at Walmart she came across the new Scotch® Expressions Tapes in all kinds of cool patterns and colors. She decided to use these cool tapes to make gifts for her friends. As a party planner, I suggested she invite a few of her tween friends over and make a party out of it. She was ALL FOR THAT! So we headed over to the party supply aisle and she didn’t see anything she liked so, being the DIYer she is, she asked if she could get more tape and make her own party decorations with the plain colored party supplies she found! MY GIRL! Gotta love that!
MAKE YOUR OWN PARTY DECORATIONS!
She decided to go with one of the tapes to use for the party decorations that complimented perfectly with the turquoise blue paper supplies she picked out (her favorite color, by the way). The tape has a boho-chic vibe which is totally her style! She even picked out a few t-shirts that matched her boho-chic party theme that she wanted to give to her friends as party favors. She decided to make custom DIY placesettings for her party which included plates, cups, cutlery and even vases for her centerpiece.
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
– Scotch® Expressions washi tape
– Scotch® Create double-sided tape
– 3 glass square vases (2 medium height and 1 taller)
– pack of plain colored paper plates
– pack of plain colored paper cups
– favor bags
– plastic cutlery
– chalkboard sticker shapes
– fun sticker conversation sayings
– pack of clear plastic plates
HERE’S WHAT TO DO: Making your own party decorations with washi tape is super easy! The tapes are very flexible and wrap around items easily. They are repositionable so you can pull the tape back up easily if you need to make it straighter or you simply change your mind.
DIY PARTY PLATES, CUPS & CUTLERY!
STEP #1: WRAP YOUR PLATE AND CUP! Wrap one layer of washi tape around the center of the plate and cup. For the cutlery, wrap the entire handle of the cutlery tightly. This is the only step for the cutlery..you’re done after this step. What? I know…I told you this was super easy!
STEP #2: ADD THE CHALKBOARD STICKER! Place one chalkboard she in the middle of the plate and cup.
STEP #3: ADD A FUN WORD STICKER! This step is optional. You can either leave the chalkboard sticker blank and use a chalk marker to write your guests’ names on them for cool place cards or you can add the fun sticker conversation bubbles which my daughter just loved!
That’s it! Super easy. Be sure to use these plates for decoration only on your dining table and to top them with a clear plastic plate to eat on. That way your plate is food safe and you can still see the cool design underneath the clear plastic plate.
DIY VASES & CENTERPIECE!
STEP #1: WRAP YOUR SQUARE VASES! Wrap one layer of washi tape around the center of each vase. For the taller vase, wrap an additional 2 layers to make a thicker band around the vase.
STEP #2: ADD THE CHALKBOARD STICKER! Place one chalkboard she in the middle of each of the vases.
STEP #3: ADD A PAPER FLOWER!
Using Scotch@ Create double-sided tape, stick the paper flower on to the center of the vases.
STEP #4: FILL WITH CANDY! Faith wanted the centerpiece to be interactive, so she wanted to fill the vases with candy instead of flowers so her and her friends could snack on the candy while making their crafts. The dining table will also serve as the craft table when they are done with their pizza. That’s it! How cute are these! The best part is that the washi tape is completely removable. It comes off in seconds without leaving any residue so you can re-use the vases for other parties! To add a super cool touch to the table’s centerpiece, create a washi tape tree by hanging the rolls of tape from an ornament tree like this one. Super cool!
LET’S CRAFT SOME HOLIDAY GIFTS!
This part of the shopping trip at Walmart was my favorite part. Watching my daughter intently walking the craft aisles and seeing her eyes light up as we came up with new ideas on what to make with the rolls of tape was priceless! She decided that her and her friends would make these items at her party:
– monogram wood palette wall hangings
– buttons
– journals
– picture frames
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:
We came home with a bag full of supplies that can all be found in the craft aisle at Walmart along with the Scotch® Expressions Tapes:
– unfinished wood palette wall hanging
– unfinished wood letters
– unfinished wood picture frames
– create your own buttons
– hard cover journals (these we found in the office supply aisle)
HERE’S HOW TO DO IT:
Making the crafts were super easy and don’t really require instructions as my daughter said, “MOM…that’s the best part about making your own washi tape crafts…you just do what you FEEL!” LOL! Okay…okay…but I’m going to sneak in a few steps: For all of the crafts they made, they used the washi tape to cover the wood surfaces in cool interesting ways and then embellished them with stickers. For the wood palette wall hanging, they covered the wood letter separately from the wood palette and then used 3M permanent hold mounting tape squares to attach the letter to the wood palette. That’s it. It was fun to see the girls having fun making holiday gifts for their friends and seeing what they created from a blank piece of wood and washi tape was exciting. For an extra holiday touch, play tween-friendly holiday music for the girls while they are crafting. Music + Tweens = FUN! My daughter, of course, insisted on creating the playlist which was totally fine with me!
Once they were all done, they painted each other’s nails in patterns and colors that matched the washi tape. My daughter’s idea of course! That girl is just so creative! If you have a crafty daughter at home like me, try hosting a crafting party for her and her friends this holiday season! It’s super fun and they leave with a bunch of handmade gifts that they can give to each other. There isn’t anything like a handmade gift, right? Happy Holidays!
