Hey party peeps! Do you have Monster High fans in your house? If you do, you won’t want to miss this post as if you’re like me, your daughter will be asking for a Monster High themed party this year. Sit back and take notes…in today’s post I’m giving you my step-by-step instructions on How to Host a Fabulous Monster High Party so you can duplicate it with less stress and actually ENJOY your daughter’s party AND look like a rock star Mom while doing it! You are SOOOO WELCOME!
HOW DID SHE DO THAT?
The Monster High ghouls are ALL ABOUT FASHION! Throwing a fangtastic Monster High party starts with finding the most spook-tacular outfit! Here Riley is wearing a Monster High inspired tutu dress…how scary-cute is this! Don’t forget the accessories…ghoulfriends! Here I paired the tutu dress with a chunky bead necklace/bracelet set and topped it off with a custom Monster High inspired mini top hat headband! Want this look for your daughter? Check out the vendor links below to order yours. Now that we have the outfit for the guest of honor all picked out…let’s get planning this party!
SET THE SCENE — MONSTER HIGH GHOULS RULE!
I love coming up with themes for my parties and when deciding on a theme for the ultimate Monster High party, I went with “GHOULS RULE!” and focused all the decor around the hottest new toy of then season—the Monster High Deadluxe High School—the location of most of the Monster High episodes. Stick with the Monster High colors: turquoise, hot pink, black and white and then mix in a few unexpected elements like I did here with denim and of course rhinestones. Lastly, to host a fabulous Monster High party, decorate your party space with the Monster High dolls, including the 6 original dolls— Clawdeen Wolf, Ghoulia Yelps, Frankie Stein, Lagoona Blue, Cleo De Nile and Riley’s favorite…Draculaura.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: There is a combo pack available at Walmart that has all 6 of the original dolls in it for $57 which is much cheaper than buying them all separately for $15 each! After the party is over, you can either send one doll home with each guest or give them all as a gift for the guest of honor!
CREATE A WOW-FACTOR SWEETS TABLE!
You know I LOVE a WOW FACTOR! And a staple at all my parties is the sweets table. It is always the center of attention of the party.
START WITH A STUNNING BACKDROP!
The backdrop is key to setting the tone for the party and creating a wow-factor! I designed my own “Ghouls Rule!” backdrop (available in my shop here) that compliments the huge Monster High Deadluxe High School playset.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: Be sure to hang the vinyl backdrop on a backdrop stand. It comes with a top rod pocket that easily slides on to the top rod of the stand. See the vendor credits below for a link to where you can purchase a backdrop stand. Don’t try to tape it to your walls as the vinyl is heavy and can easily come detached from the wall during the party…TOTAL FAIL! How do I know this? Well, this just may have happened to me ONCE…JUST SAYIN!
USE YOUR PRESENTS AS DECOR!
The ultimate present for any Monster High fan is the Deadluxe High School. It’s size alone makes it a total wow-factor! Consider using the new Monster High School Deadluxe playset as the centerpiece of the party instead of leaving it in the box wrapped! If you have one already, you just simply relocate from your daughter’s room to the party table or, if not, you of course can purchase it and give it to your daughter as a surprise for her party. I mean, imagine your child walking into her party and seeing this on her party table! TOTAL ROCK STAR MOM MOMENT! Riley just kept staring at it and saying “IT’S AMAZING MOM!” Priceless moment for me and as a professional party stylist, this is what makes all the long hours totally worth it for me!
GIRLFRIEND TIP: Be sure to give yourself about 40 minutes to put it together. It expands to almost 5′ wide, so you’ll need a 6′ table to display it on. Once you’re done, fill the table with candy and desserts that match the colors and theme of the party and place the Monster High dolls in the playset. Be sure to check out the vendor list at the bottom of this post for all the bakers and vendors that I got all the sweets from so you can easily recreate this look. Get creative and use the playset itself to display the desserts. How cute are the cupcakes displayed in the balcony and windows!
SET A GORE-GEOUS PARTY DINING TABLE!
How fabulous is this dining table featuring my daughter’s favorite ghoulfriend…Draculaura! The black and white striped chandelier lamp from ShopWildThings.com is just stunning towering above the table with Draculcaura taking center stage in the centerpiece.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: If you aren’t serving a cake at your party but still love the look of a banner cake topper like this one, simply place each end into a cupcake instead! LOVE how this turned out!
PROVIDE FANG-TASTIC PARTY ACTIVITIES!
CREATE YOUR OWN GHOUL!
A Monster High party isn’t complete without fang-tactic party activities! My daughter has been dying for the Monster High Create A Monster Head, so I got a few for her party so the girls can create their own ghoul and take them home with them. Be sure to have take-home bags ready to place all the toy’s accessories and stickers in. I found these denim printed ones at Michaels….perfect, right?
MAKE BOTTLECAP KEYCHAINS!
The girls also created a super cute bottle cap keychain which was as simple as getting a bag of colored bottle cap keychains and then having the girls put a sticker on the front. Simple and cute!
MYSTERY GRAB BAG!
This is so much fun! Fill a Monster High bag full of a variety of Monster High party favors and have the girls reach inside without looking and pull something out. I love to tell them there’s things inside like fangs, spiders and fish eyes just to get them squealing! So fun! Give each girl a favor box like these to put all their goodies in!
GIRLFRIEND TIP: This is a great alternative to a piñata when you have to have your party inside when it’s cold outside. AND…you don’t have to buy a lot of each favor for each guest, just buy a combo pack of favors (they sell them at Party City) and throw them all in the grab bag and let the kids take turns pulling out a favor for them to keep.
SET UP A SCARY-COOL DRESS UP BAR!
The ghoul-friends are ALL ABOUT FASHION! No Monster High party is complete without a scary-cool dress up bar! Invite the girls to dress up in Monster High outfits and accessories including tutus and matching mini top hats! Look how these mini top hats match each of the Monster High girls…FABOOLOUS! One of my favorite displays on the table has got to be the Draculaura coffin beauty box. These blinged-out mini coffins are just perfect take-home favors and display the Monster High body jewelry stickers perfectly!
GIRLFRIEND TIP: YES…that is the Monster High Deadluxe High School playset on the table! I wanted to show you that it folds up to a way smaller size for easy storage.
