Hey, party peeps! TREND ALERT: Mini Christmas Trees—Our New Family Tradition! Have you guys seen this hot new trend where you decorate a personal mini tree? Target has an entire section dedicated just to mini trees right now in their holiday section. There are a few colors (white, red, gold, blue and green) to choose from and an entire section of color-coordinated mini accessories to decorate it, including tree skirts, tree-topper stars, lights and ornaments! How cute is that?
This new trend has an especially personal meaning for me. A few years ago, we relocated from out of state and moved into our house a few weeks before Christmas. None of our stuff had arrived and wasn’t scheduled to until after Christmas, so we had none of our holiday decorations that year. But a good friend of mine brought over a mini tree so the kids would have a tree on Christmas! They LOVED it. It was the only thing sitting in front of our gigantic fireplace mantel, and it just shined brightly, like it was six feet tall! Since then, I have a fond memory of mini tinsel trees, and I had a trip down memory lane as I stood in the aisle at Target surrounded by mini trees in all their glory. Right then and there, I decided to take that memory and create a family holiday tradition out of it. This year, I surprised my kids with a mini tree for each of them to decorate themselves and place in their rooms. They loved this.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: Each Christmas, the kids will pick out a new ornament for their tree. When it gets full, they can simply move the older ornaments to our big family Christmas tree.
PICK OUT MINI TREE DECORATIONS!
Each of the kids went with me to Target to pick out their own mini tree, plus ornaments and accessories to go with it. They picked out their own mini tree skirt, colored lights, tree star and mini ornaments. I also let them each pick out three more ornaments from the regular-sized ornament section that would fit on the tree nicely. It was fun to see which ornaments they picked out. My youngest son picked out a green mini tree and ornaments that reflected his current favorite things—the Hulk, “Jurassic Park” and R2-D2! My youngest daughter—my girly girl—picked out a pink mini tree, of course, and matching pink balloon, pink gingerbread house and a ballerina mouse! My tween daughter, Faith—my animal lover—picked out a gold mini tree and three modern gold-and-white animal ornaments. (That’s my daughter!)
LET’S DECORATE OUR MINI CHRISTMAS TREES!
This was super fun and did get a bit silly at times. I mean, what kid doesn’t get excited when a string of lights suddenly lights up in their hands? I even got into the action! My daughter, Riley just kept saying, “Mom, this is SO FUN!” These are priceless memories for me that we will cherish.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Those little trees are a super smart idea. Kids learn how to decorate, and they can do their own thing and not worry if it fits with the family decor. I guess they could even keep them in their own rooms to make their room ready for Christmas too.

I love this mini tree trend! I think it makes it much easier to have a themed tree if you’ve got something a little more manageable than a 6 foot tree! lol
