Hey party peeps! Celebrate this 4th of July with a few DIY decorations to add a fabulous touch to your upcoming 4th of July parties. Here I made this DIY 4th of July THANK YOU Stars and Stripes Topper with Cricut that added a finishing touch to a Coca-Cola Can Tower I made to honor my Navy son who will be home this summer for our annual family get-together. How awesome does this look? You can check out the post HERE to see how to make this and where to get those limited edition Coca-Cola cans!
This 4th of July DIY craft is part of the #DIYyour4thOfJuly campaign I’m hosting along with 8 other DIY and party bloggers. This week’s theme is STARS AND STRIPES. This DIY 4th of July THANK YOU Stars and Stripes Topper is my interpretation of this. Show us your 4th of July DIY crafts on Instagram HERE, follow all the hosts and use the hashtag each week for a chance to be featured.
I whipped up this topper in minutes with my Cricut. Want to see how to make it? Let’s get started.
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED
– Cricut Explore Air™ 2 machine
– 4th of July Star Topper Cricut Cut File
– Cricut Red Cardstock
– Cricut Adhesive Foil – Silver
– Cricut Transfer Tape
– Cricut Weeding Tool
– Cricut Scraper Tool
– red and white striped paper straw
– clear tape
STEP 1: CUT OUT YOUR PAPER TOPPER WITH CRICUT
First, you’ll need the Star Topper cut file. Log in to Cricut Design Space and load the project. You can find it HERE. Design Space will walk you through cutting the star out of red card stock and the THANK YOU words and stars from silver adhesive foil. Be sure to select CUSTOM – Adhesive foil (for circle stars/words graphic) and CARDSTOCK (for the big star) on the Cricut’s dial before cutting.
STEP 2: ASSEMBLE THE STAR TOPPER
After you’ve cut your star, sit it to the side. Carefully peel the silver adhesive foil away from the paper backing of the words and circle stars graphic leaving the words and stars on the liner. Use the Cricut weeding tool to remove any unwanted foil like the insides of the A and O letters.
Remove the liner from a piece of Cricut transfer tape and place it directly on top of the entire area that covers the circle stars and words graphic. Firmly smooth it down with the Cricut scraper tool. Once the transfer tape is firmly attached to the foil graphic, carefully and slowly lift away the transfer tape taking the full graphic with it.
Position the transfer tape with the graphic above the red star cutout until you have it in the center. Once you have it centered, place the transfer tape on the red star and using the scraper tool, smooth it down onto the red star cutout. Remove the transfer tape slowly leaving the foil graphic on the red star.
Turn the Star Topper over and tape a red and white paper straw to the middle of it. Your topper is now done. Tape it to the back of a Coca-Cola can and place it at the top of your tower. How awesome does this look!
GIRLFRIEND TIP: There are so many uses for this. Salute our military and use this as a cake topper or place it into a centerpiece. The possibilities are endless!
