Hey party peeps! Decorating a party using only black and white party decorations is a hot new trend in party styling right now and today I’m sharing with you my Girlfriend Tips on how to set up a BOO Black and White Halloween Party Trick-or-Treat Table!
BLACK AND WHITE HALLOWEEN PARTY – THE INSPIRATION!
These Boo napkins and Ghost plates from Oriental Trading were my inspiration for the whole party design. You can find these and many of the Halloween decorations I used for this over on Oriental Trading. This post was sponsored by Oriental Trading with either payment and/or product to review. All opinions are my own as I ONLY promote brands that I LOVE and actually USE.
BLACK AND WHITE HALLOWEEN PARTY – SET THE SCENE!
First things first….dress up in costumes that match your theme! This Ghost Romper costume by Oriental Trading is perfect for kids! I added black and white striped tights and a super cute black and white mini top hat that I embellished with a foam ghost sticker to match the costume. How cute!
GIRLFRIEND TIP #1: START WITH A WHITE WALL OR BACKDROP!
Next, find a white wall in your house that you can use to set up your table. If you don’t have a white wall, you could use a backdrop stand and attach a white vinyl backdrop to it. OR could also attach some plain white paper directly to your walls with Frog Tape. Oriental Trading sells white paper rolls that are easy to put up.
GIRLFRIEND TIP #2: USE SOLID BLACK AS A BASE!
Use a solid black tablecloth to create a contrast between the wall and your table. Using a solid black tablecloth allows your table decorations to pop like these GHOST ceramic letter dishes. How fabulous are these! Fill them with white sugar pearl candy and you have both a wow-factor decor piece for your table and candy dishes for your guests. I LOVE these!
GIRLFRIEND TIP #3: ADD BLACK DECOR ITEMS!
Let’s face it, a white wall is just plain BORING! Add visual interest to your wall and make a visual statement by adding black decorations that will contrast with the wall. I used two black tabletop trees. One is a black manzanita tree and the other is a glitter tree with a metal base so they both stand on their own.
Use black candleholders to prop up Halloween decorations like black pumpkins and white ceramic jack-o-lanterns to give your table height.
Once you have your tall decor placed where you want them, add a few vinyl black bats to the wall. I like to add the bats once the table decorations are all in place so I can place the bats on the wall to fill in the empty space on the wall.
How in the world do you put these on your wall and not damage your walls? Here’s my trick!
The bats are vinyl so just using Frog Tape on them to keep them on the wall won’t hold them up there. My trick is to use heavy-duty double-sided tape on the back of the bat, then fully cover the double-sided tape with a large piece of Frog Tape then place the bats on the wall. They will stay put and your wall won’t get damaged when you take them off since only the Frog Tape is actually touching your wall, but the double-sided tape is keeping the bat securely on the Frog Tape and the Frog Tape keep it on the wall. This Girlfriend Tip is a KEEPER!
GIRLFRIEND TIP 4: CREATE A THEMED CENTERPIECE!
I like to add at least one simple handmade element to my party designs and this time, I created this BOO Coffin Sign in literally minutes!
I’m a fan of simple DIYs when prepping for a party that only require a few steps and a few supplies so I’m not all stressed out. Make sure to check out my super easy, step-by-step tutorial on how to make this BLACK AND WHITE BOO WALL SIGN. Hang it from a free-standing tabletop shepherd’s hook. I like this one as I can raise and lower it to adjust the height to where I want it.
GIRLFRIEND TIP 5: ADD SOME SPARKLE!
I know! I add sparkle to almost all of my party designs, but my motto is that “everybody needs a little sparkle in their life!”
So, to add sparkle to this party design, I opted to use a sparkly black sequin tablecloth instead of a plain black one and nothing is more fabulous than a black glitter tree!
I also spray painted some black plastic spiders silver metallic for a bit of shine. How awesome do they look crawling on the trees and crawling all around the base of the centerpiece! LOVE them!
I also served silver metallic wrapped Hersey Kisses and displayed the silver metallic cutlery in black cauldrons on the table too for a bit of sparkle.
GIRLFRIEND TIP 6: ADD BLACK AND WHITE PATTERNS!
The key to successfully decorating with black and white is to use black and white patterned items to break up the starkness of just the black and white. Here I added a black and white table runner to the back of the table and two black and white striped photo boxes to the middle of the table. Use black and white paper straws, black and white baking cups, black and white BOO napkins, black and white ghost patterned plates.
GIRLFRIEND TIP 7: SERVE BLACK AND WHITE CANDY AND DESSERTS!
You can even add black and white patterns to your table design with the candy or desserts you serve. Serve silver Hershey Kisses® in black and white striped baking cups. For added fun, I placed them on a spiral cupcake stand so it looked like the candy cups were floating in the air like a ghost.
Fill your candy table with all black candy like these black cherry rock candy sticks, all white candy like gumballs, Sixlets and sugar pearls. Create your own black and white pattern with gumballs by adding black and white gumballs to clear favor tubes.
And black and white swirl lollipops are always a hit!
Check out these super cute black and white cookies made by Auntie Bea’s Bakery!
Have your guests fill up these spooky cute plastic ghost cups with milk and you have a spooky cool Halloween Cookies & Milk treat for your guests.
Cups as Party Favors! These ghost cups come with clear plastic straws, but to put my own spin on them and to match the table better, I added black and white patterned paper straws to the cups for guests to use at the party. Keep the clear plastic straws, though, so you can send them home with each guest after the party with their cups. They make great party favors.
AND…my favorite? These Marshmallow Ghost Pops! These take only minutes to make and kids love them! You can place them on your table or package them up for guests to take home. Either way, they are an easy Halloween dessert. Click over to see how to make these MARSHMALLOW GHOST POPS.
Be sure to have some black and white favor bags like ghost face paper bags or black and white chevron gable boxes on your Trick-or-Treat table for guests to fill up with all your goodies.
GIRLFRIEND TIP 8: SEND GUESTS HOME WITH THEMED PARTY FAVORS!
SPIDERWEB COTTON CANDY PARTY FAVORS!
How cute are these pre-packaged cotton candy? They remind me of spiderwebs, so I like to serve them at Halloween parties. Place a ghost sticker on the front and you have a fabulous ghost-themed party favor!
Place them in a clear plastic bucket filled with white batting and black plastic spiders for a spooky look and have your guest of honor go around the party offering them to your guests.
Michael giving me his zombie pose! SILLY!
VINYL BATS PARTY FAVORS!
Pick up an extra pack of the vinyl bats too. They come in a pack of 12. For the party table, I only needed 5, so I had quite a few left over. They come with a string attached so kids can have fun pretending to fly them all around. My son played with these for hours.
They may or may not have had a battle with his dinosaurs in his room after the party! That’s when the lightbulb went off that not only do these vinyl bats make fabulous party decorations, but also can be a fun party favor too!
GHOST BALLOON FLOATERS!
Seriously, not only do these Ghost Balloon Floaters look amazing floating all around your party space, but they make fabulous party favors to send home with your guests! They are super easy to make. Be sure to check out my step-by-step tutorial on how to make these GHOST BALLOON FLOATERS!
GIRLFRIEND TIP 9: PLAY GHOST BALLOON PARTY GAMES!
Now it’s time for some party fun! Create a GHOST GAME ZONE affordably by creating your own fun balloon games using a pack of balloons. Check out my post on GHOST HALLOWEEN PARTY GAMES for all the instructions. Trust me…your kids will LOVE it!
GIRLFRIEND TIP 10: CAPTURE ALL THE FUN WITH A GHOST FACE PHOTO BOOTH!
Use the ghost face balloons as photo props. No need to set up a separate photo booth backdrop, simply use your party table as a photo backdrop, it looks great in photos!
AND..get some fun photos and have the kids hold a ghost face balloon and mimic the faces of the ghosts they are holding. This is HILARIOUS! Get your cameras ready!
Riley wanted to mimic the face on her Ghost Romper costume!
