Hey guys! If you’ve been following along on my blog these past few months, you already know that we recently became homeowners and are having a blast redecorating our entire house! Today I’m so excited to share with you our son’s new bedroom and hopefully inspire you with these Ninja Turtles Bedroom Ideas.
My son is 3 (soon to turn 4) and has loved the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for going on 2 years now. I mean, EVERYTHING for him has to be Ninja Turtles…SO…it was a no-brainer for me when I was trying to decide what theme I would do in his room.
Ninja Turtles Bedroom Ideas:
– LED “Mutagen” tubes
– Poster frames with battery-operated clip on spotlights
– Custom designed graffiti printables
– DIY sewer pipe (click here to see how to make this)
HOW DID SHE DO THAT?
Ninja Turtles Bedroom Ideas – START WITH BASIC PAINT COLORS!
We painted our entire house and I’m totally loving this tone of gray! We have it all throughout our house’s main areas as accent walls and I loved it so much, that I decided to paint Michael’s entire room with it. It’s a great color that can compliment all kinds of themes because let’s face it…kids this age change their minds on what they’re into A LOT! One day it’s Ninja Turtles, the next it’s Spiderman!
Ninja Turtles Bedroom Ideas – ADD NON-THEMED FURNITURE ITEMS!
Since kids change their minds all the time, I never commit to expensive, permanent themed items. I went with dark brown wood furnishings that will stand up to the wear and tear of a feisty 3 year old boy. (This is the same boy that we have affectionately entitled an entire Instagram series after called “Lil’Man Strikes Again!”…yup, we definitely needed furniture that would stand up to this one’s shenanigans!)
GIRLFRIEND TIP: Over the years, I’ve had to refrain from buying themed beds (like a race car, etc) because that to me is a high-priced ticket item that is themed so that when your child loses interest in cars, you have to repurchase an entire bed! It’s hard to resist, as they are so cute!
Ninja Turtles Bedroom Ideas – CREATE A WOW FACTOR!
This is where it gets fun! This is the OMG moment…that moment your child walks into their room for the first time and way “WOW!”. Don’t we all live for that moment. I wanted the room to have an urban city feel with a Ninja Turtle focus. Here I created a dramatic headboard out of a brick panel that went from floor to ceiling. Next I added these super cool Ninja Turtle lights to the face of the brick wall. They give off the perfect amount of light to give the room an awesome glow at night…Now that’s a cool night light, right! I finished the headboard wall off with graffiti style printables that I designed for the space and using double sided tape, stuck a few of Michael’s ninja turtle weapons on the wall. How cool is that!
Next I added in urban elements that could stay in the room and compliment many themes like the brick panel headboard (for a new look, remove TMNT lights and graffiti printables) and poster frames (simply swap out the posters). I wanted the posters to look like billboards so I added these clip-on poster lights that added that special touch. The great thing is that the clip-on poster lights are battery operated and turn on by pressing a button on the side so I was able to get cool lighting fixtures in the room with no wires hanging down or have to worry about where the electrical outlets were!
GIRLFRIEND TIP: The Ninja Turtle lights I found at Target and are sold individually so you don’t have to get all 4 if you don’t want to. They are also battery operated and turn on with a switch at the bottom of each light, so there was no need for extensive wiring to get these on the wall! Gotta love that!
Ninja Turtles Bedroom Ideas – DECORATE WITH ITEMS YOU ALREADY HAVE!
I happened to host a Ninja Turtles party for my older daughter a few years ago (see the party here) and held on to some of the decor pieces from the party — the brick wall panel, DIY Sewer Pipe (DIY instructions here) and those cool battery operated LED risers that make the perfect “Mutagen” canisters, don’t you think?
GIRLFRIEND TIP: Use toys in the theme your kids already have to decorate the room! This is a great way to spend little money and still have a fabulous themed room. Transforming Michael’s room into a Ninja Turtle bedroom was really easy for me as my son was already so into Ninja Turtles that we had LOTS of Ninja Turtle toys already so I just used them to decorate the room.
Okay, okay…I know what you’re thinking…why in the world is that huge HULK in the room??!! Well…my son just recently started watching Avengers Assemble and LOVES the Hulk! He runs around the house yelling “HULK SMASH” all the time…so I decided to surprise him with this life-size cardboard cutout of The Hulk that I had leftover from an Avengers party I recently styled.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: Birthday Express has a great selection of character cardboard standups around $40 which is a great inexpensive way to add a HUGE wow factor to your child’s room! My son was AMAZED that the Hulk was in his room…he talks to him all the time & occasionally tries to drop kick him…PRICELESS!
ADD INEXPENSIVE THEMED ITEMS TO FINISH THE ROOM!
For under $50 I was able to purchase several licensed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles items to finish the room. Those items included a Ninja Turtles area rug, 2 posters, wall canvas, throw blanket and several cardboard storage boxes — most of which I found at Target.
Well, that’s it. My son think he has THE COOLEST room ever and I am now a rock star MOM in his eyes. Isn’t that what decorating your kids’ room is all about anyway?
