Hey party peeps! My name is Tonya Coleman and I am a HUGE Football fan and YES….I’m a girl! No more sitting upstairs while my husband has all the fun yelling and screaming at the TV! The best thing I could have done for my relationship was to sit down with him one Sunday and actually watch the game with him…that’s all it took! I was a football fan from that day forward.
Are you guys glued to the TV every weekend during the playoffs waiting to see which teams make it to the BIG GAME? Me too! Both my hubby and my teams are out of it at this point, but we are football fans and love watching. We host a party every year for the BIG GAME and this year I’m doing a series of posts giving you guys ideas to host your own party. Today I’m featuring my “HALFTIME ROCKS!” Football Party Snack Bar Ideas for the BIG GAME! featuring Coca-Cola ice cream floats and REESE’S Peanut Butter Cup shakes.
HOW DID SHE DO THAT?
I love to setup a candy or snack table at all of my parties. Be sure to follow my steps & “Girlfriend Tips” below to recreate this Halftime Rocks themed snack bar for your upcoming party. When coming up with what to do for this snack bar, I decided to serve mini-foods paired with our favorite candy. REESE’S Peanut Butter Cups are BOTH me and my husband’s favorite candy. Pair that with football and Coca-Cola (one of his favorite drinks)…we’ve got a snack bar idea perfect for us!
STEP 1: SET THE SCENE FOR A “HALFTIME ROCKS! Snack Bar
One of my favorite parts of the BIG GAME are the halftime show musical performances and all the special guest performances and surprises! I can’t wait to see this year’s halftime show performance—I’m sure it will be rocking! So, when deciding on a theme for your BIG GAME snack bar, why not do a music-themed table display and include musical instruments as table props like this drum and guitar mixed in with football props like these goalposts, stadium seat risers and football field turf table cover. You can also use a plastic football field table linen that you can pick up in the football party section and adhere it to you wall behind your table with removable tape strips.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: Don’t be afraid to use unexpected fabrics! To add some excitement to the table, I decided to go with a shimmery gunmetal gray sequin table linen instead of the traditional football themed table linen. I love how it looks paired with the football turf tablecloth I used as a backdrop instead and it matches perfectly with the silver in the instruments.
STEP 2: HAVE SNACKS AND DRINKS ON HAND THROUGHOUT THE GAME!
While watching the BIG GAME guests normally want to snack throughout the game so be sure to have plenty of snacks like these Target store-bought cupcakes topped with chopped REESE’S cups, REESE’S Peanut Butter Cup Footballs and ice-cold Coca-Cola on hand.
STEP 3: SERVE MINI FOODS YOU HEAT, NOT COOK!
If cooking is not your thing and you want to spend time with your family and friends and NOT have to be tied to the kitchen cooking up a spread of food, then this step is for you! For the halftime show, I like to serve food when we’re all taking a break from all the excitement of the game and settling in to watch the halftime performance. What about a “BURGER & SHAKES” menu with mini-foods, like burger sliders that guests can top with their favorite toppings and tater tot kabobs which are both easy and fast!
GIRLFRIEND TIP:
All of the menu items are super easy and fast to make so you won’t miss much of the game. For the burgers, I picked up a few boxes of frozen burger sliders from Target that takes only 10 minutes to cook in the oven along with a bag of frozen tater tots that takes 20 minutes. Just throw them all in the oven at the beginning of the 2nd quarter of the game and in 30 minutes you are done…just in time to serve at halftime!
STEP 4: SERVE FUN DRINKS!
Nothing goes better with burgers and tater tots than ice cold Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola ice cream floats and REESE’S Peanut Butter Cup Shakes! For the shakes and floats, I picked up a huge tub of vanilla ice cream and an extra bag of REESE’S Peanut Butter Cups to blend with the ice cream and crushed a few to sprinkle on top. For the floats, just put two scoops of vanilla ice cream in a glass and slowly fill the rest of the way with Coca-Cola. EASY & FAST!
GIRLFRIEND TIP:
For an added detail, I found these Coca-Cola glasses that were perfect of the Coca-Cola floats, but can also do double duty as take-home favors for your guests when they leave. Simply wash them at the end of the game and have your guests fill them with any extra REESE’S candy you have left over, Gotta love items that do double-duty!
ARE YOU HOSTING A PARTY FOR THE BIG GAME THIS YEAR? IF SO, WHAT TIPS DO YOU HAVE?
Want to recreate this look? Target has great deals on Coca-Cola and REESE’S Peanut Butter Cups to get you started.
GIRLFRIEND TIP: Target has, for a limited time, football shaped REESE’S Peanut Butter Cups which would be perfect to display on the table. They even have a deal on Cartwheel right now where you can save 15% off of the REESE’S Footballs (10oz packages) and save on Coca-Cola 6-Pack 500ml bottles too! So, off to Target I went to stock up on both. Click here for the REESE’S Peanut Butter Cup Footballs offer and here for the Coca-Cola offer.
Cheers!
Tonya
